The Braves are pitching Cormier, who has a 5.23 ERA this year and a 9.00 lifetime against the Nats. The Nats are running up Ortiz, who has a 5.30 himself with a lifetime 8.10 against Atlanta. I wouldn't be looking for a pitching duel.

At least you'll get to see Chipper play, which hasn't happened much around here lately...

I'll probably be late tonight. We're watching a friend's daughter and while the kids can probably play just fine while she's here, I suppose I should at least speak to her parents at pick up and drop off. I expect them a little after 7, and can log on after that.

3 things.

(1) There are times when I start down the bitch-trail, and, if nothing heads me off, I get to the point where nothing makes me happy--if the dang computer started flinging out $100 bills I'd complain about the serial numbers . I was certainly there last time out. Sorry. For og's sake, tell me to stfu when I start that...

(2) Anyone else feel like starting in Caves and seeing what happens?

(3) If anyone picks up or sees vended a good blocking shield I can carry or a quick weapon, let me know. I'm thinking of dabbling in S/S on some levels. I might be under-dexed, but there is only one way to find out (well, actually there are two ways--you *could* just do the math, but let's ignore that option for now, shall we?).

I'm fine with trying the caves. Right now, I'm an "arty" rogue without the artillery, so if it all goes south rather quickly, that doesn't necessarily mean we're in the wrong place. I do need another hidden to be able to wear my TC again, though.

Sirian keeps going back to the fact that we chose to leave normal/hell, and then nightmare/hell, and that means that we're going to have a tougher time with it, and also that we're less likely to find better gear. Personally, I find that to be an acceptable tradeoff. I think that a lot of players don't spend much time on levels other than 13-16, and as a result they are mising 3/4 of the game as far as level layouts, monster AI and resistances, etc. Part of it could be that the spells and shrines available on the lower levels are of more interest to a rogue than a warrior, of course.

I think that there's a difference between moving on to the next difficulty level, trying to push the envelope with our characters, and feeling that we can never go back to nightmare/hell again. Looking realistically at our gear and the rate of XP gain, I think that we're going to need a couple of trips to nightmare/hell before we can be successful on hell/13. I don't want night/hell to become the extent of our playing, and I enjoy continuing to "go beyond" where we've been in hell, but I'm hoping that we can find a way to incorporate both areas. I think that this opinion is still consistent with wanting to move to the next difficulty as soon as possible. At least, it makes sense to me.

IIRC, in Diablo 1, all shields have the same chance to block. The block check depends only on Dex, clvl, and mlvl. The modifiers of choice for shields are resistance or defense. There is a suffix for _fast_ blocking, but it's pretty low qlvl so you won't see it dropped or vended later in the game.

I don't really care too much where we choose to play, since I never played all that much D1 back in the day. It was getting a little boring when we were doing nothing but NM/Hell runs every single session though. Mixing up some of those runs with Hell Cats/Caves might be a good compromise for now.
