I have been looking for something similar. I found this giving a quick overview of the history which was quite handy. Other than that the game manual gives a bit of fluff too

I got my grounding in the lore by randomly browsing the civilopedia while playing, so downloading the lore compendium and looking around for things that seem interesting can't be too bad a method. The timeline might be a good starting point, but it's a bit heavy on exposition.

It does seem a bit hard to summarize. Apparently, there's just too much information to cram it all into one paragraph.

Best way to get into FfH lore is to read pocketbeetle's thread in FFH PBEM I. It might not talk that much about lore itself, but it's too good of a read not to advertise here. :neenernee
