and thats where i wonder why they don't just get more realistic air dates, instead of releasing a pretty chassis that doesn't really have anything worthwhile underneath the hood, other than 'this will be great, when we finished adding it'

Two minor features pulled does not mean an unfinished product or vaporware.

The strategic terrain feature just didn't make sense, and didn't add to the experience in a way that they intended, so it was axed. They didn't try and make a bad idea work like most other game companies would.

The independent colonies was something I was looking forward to, but they caused stability issues so they were removed before release. It wasn't something worth move back a release date for.

If Kerberos fixes either of these, they'll put them in. Any one who has played SOTS I for any length of time knows this. They are VERY good at updating and maintaining their product.

Also Kerberos isn't a majore developer, they can't just pick some date and release it. They have a lot more issue to work around then most of the larger developers.

As I said in another forum, Kerberos has earned my trust, and it'd take a major blow to ruin it.

my gripe wasn't specificly aimed at Kerberus, but a wide salvo against developers, who's racing the clock on every release, rather releasing a dozen patches to make the game playable, than waiting out till their QA gives their stamp of approval ... only company that takes their time is almost blizzard ... but with their new WoW exp, they jumped a giant space shark from hell IMO

I would love to see Zed-F or Erebus do a cool Sulla-style "intro to CIV IV" walkthrough to SotS2. That would a) make my day for time-wasting and b) give me a good grip on whether or not I want to fork over the money for SotS2. I have the original (with expansions) but have never been quite able to grok it.

Strongly second Sareln's idea!

I would love to see a walk-through presentation from Zed-F or someone similar. His efforts here organizing SotS 1 SGs have been a great introduction to the original game, and I think someone with some knowledge giving us a look at what the new game is like would help a lot of people decide whether it is something they want to purchase. Especially people like myself who have liked SotS 1 but have not had time to really follow what is changing with SotS 2.

Hahaha, apparently they accidently uploaded a 5 month old build or something to Steam.

Zed-F please do an LP of this game, as my laptop isn't beefy enough for this game. I really want to see some of the fancy new features.

OOps! lol

It's so easy for this to happen though if you don't have a rock-solid process in place for your publishing pipeline. That's why I keep needing to push hotfix patches for EitB, I'm a one-man shop and prone to errors late at night. smile

Video Let's Play: probably not, I are a video noob. But I can provide links for those with weak search-Fu. smile

TAR (written AAR): more than likely! thumbsup

SG: at some point... but I'm not sure how popular they will be when nobody knows what they are doing yet. Don't we usually wait a bit for folks to get their feet under them before starting these for a new game? Otherwise I am certainly not against the idea and if the demand is there I can certainly see about organizing something.

I prefer to consume information in written form anyways, so I will happily read whatever TAR you write. An SG would be amusing, though you'd probably want something more exploratory than competitive (eg. no real reason to crank the AI to max level and go for a ball-buster).

It's sad to say, but I can't support the game in it's current form. frown

I was looking forward to this game and spent the entire last night defending it when the "beta build" was accidently uploaded.

However, the recent version isn't much better. I've yet to even play the tactical aspect of the game, the strategic level is so hard to even slog through. The game feels slower and less intuitive then the first one.

In a month or two this might be a good game, if the company doesn't implode from such a shoddy release. Till then I recommend everyone stay away from this one.

I do however, still highly recommend SOTS 1, it's a timeless game then I've been playing for nearly 4 years straight. It's well worth it's 5 dollar investment currently on steam.
