The next hall?

Hey guys,

As you know (or not) it's time to switch halls again. So, are we done with the experimentation/learning process or do we want to keep going? If I remember the list correctly, there's only 1 other hall besides Solitude that people wanted to try, which is Wizard's. However, Wizard's is the same as Warrior's for layout (the halls are slightly different, but not by much) and we've had several matches on Warrior's (which have generally gone our way).

There are also a few other maps we haven't tried that we might (for tactical purposes), if you guys are interested, so if you still want to try one, say so.

In my opinion, such as it is, we might want to go straight to Solitude and get more experience as a team before we try alternating halls again. I think the thing most people are worried about right now is figuring out this whole GvG thing and not so much about how the different halls are going to govern different tactics, splits, or whatever.

And no, I'm not just saying that to get out of buying a sigil.

I really liked playing on Solitude (maybe just cause we won, but meh), and would be happy to go straight to it, especially since we've got a good probability of playing home field. There are others that'd be fun to try out, either for the theme or the layout, but no rush, and not really something necessary.

Eh, you did just complain about 22k sigil prices ingame. wink

I think the conclusion that our build = suck on wurms may be premature. Since anytime we were playing on home field the opposing team did have a rating advantage on us. And not to put us down, but heroway without discord is not a challenge, which is all we faced the 2 times we played on solitude!

Gamplaywise I slightly dislike the feeling of a huge walk between bases on maps akin to wizards/hunters/warriors. With that I guess we could go onto solitude for a while... even if I will cringe slightly. tongue

Also, Frozen Isle with the ice and insane flagstand distance just plain sucked. Tactics do matter somewhat. Thankfully we won't be trying out antisplit abominations like burning and jade. [Image: rolleye.gif]

I agree with Fox that the conclusion that "we suck on Wurms" (Seijin, I'll be waiting for a snarky remark wink ) is premature. You have to remember that both of the matches we played "at home" we were not only up against teams with higher ratings, but we also had our necros swapped, sending the wrong one to follow Fox as part of our Uber Leet Split Team! rolleye

We might do considerably better with more familiarity with the build.

However, that being said, and also taking into account what Wyrm said in another post - the one about how we're about a 2 right now, and split teams require about a skill level of 6 - I think Wurms may be an additional source of frustration that we don't need atm. It pretty much requires a split, in order to cap the health shrine. A 3 way split if any other situation arises, like trying to defend against a gank. The Isle of Solitude won't require quite the same level of skill and confidence. I'm hoping that Solitude will give us the opportunity to gain both. Therefore, I add my vote to the "Let's move on to Solitude, and then park there for a loooooong while" list. Everyone seems to like the aesthetics, and it would be great to get some extensive experience playing GvG on the map. thumbsup

That's kinda what I've been glinting on a bit. We're all trying to figure out how to play our chars and get settled into our roles, so doing that AND trying out different halls might be a bit much for us right now. I think the hall switching and experimentation is a good idea in theory, but we need to get comfortable in our roles before we do so. When I suggested the idea we were still pretty dependent on guests for the critical roles of leading and flag running (as well as, y'know, half the team). That meant that, for the most part, we just had to show up and let the people who knew what they were doing guide us.
