Cold feet ...

I am all for playing the hand dealt and so on, and don't mind if I loose a game, when it was fun playing. But this start is silly. eek
Any clever opening strategies?
Anyone?

I would go research to Fishing->Mining (Build a worker here)->BW->Animal Husbandry->Archery

Now while doing this find your nearest neighbor (with the worker road in their direction), as soon as you find metal/horses Settle them and hook them up, then whip your city to death to pump out units to take your closest neighbor's capital.

i am all for admitting that i am not very clever, and confess that i head straight for the regen key if my start seems obviously over my head, or a restart if it becomes obvious later, but respect that you're braver than i am.

i am quite interested in how this works out for you, win or lose, if you have the time, inclination, and bravery ( wink depending on the success) to give updates now and then. if not i completely understand. this is rather a hypocritical request, given that i have never exposed my own bizarre playing habits for public scrutiny!

my first and foremost wish is for you to have fun for as long as it lasts and regardless of how it ends smile

Don't forget to move your capital!

Your first priority is getting a city up in a better position, maybe grow to size 2 while buidling warriors and then immediately start a settler. Your production is too weak to wait long and you don't want your nearest decent land to be settled already.

p.s. I have rolled a start which was far more isolated than yours, you shouldn't have quite as far to travel to get back into Civilization as I did.

In this game you should have moved your capital to the right one (founded on the river furs), so that half the big glut of seafood can go to a 2nd city. You can still slide a 2nd city in but it can only work one fish and none of the capital's resources. That extra high quality city right next to your capital really helps.

Do you have the information to make that call on turn one? Or are you supposed to recognize that you are snowed in, and postpone the start a couple turns to prepare that second city?

If you move the warrior and see only tundra, you might get that idea.

I honestly wonder if just moving the settler all the way south would be smarter with such a start anyway.
