My vanilla CD is MIA and I am very irritated at myself that i can't play or even shadow any of the recent RB events. Nice scenario design though.
Aw, how could I refuse! What speed do you want it on?

Ruff_Hi Wrote:I think I have worked out my approach but it requires that it is played on marathon. Can I get a save in that version?
Well, marathon is unbalanced, but ... I'm curious to see what you're up to.

I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Ooh that would be really great! I think that Epic is probably what I am looking for. Thanks A LOT!!

The dates don't scale properly between marathon and normal/epic, so marathon ends up significantly ahead in terms of the date for the same amount of civ progress.

I'm assuming no one knows why they didn't scale them properly?

Well, yes, but the real problem is that the cost of units only scales by 200% on Marathon while everything else is scaled by 300%. Basically this breaks the balance of the game, since the player can use this knowledge to pull off all sorts of tricks on the AI... It takes forever to build new units or research new technologies, so a rapid rush to Bronze Working and axes can be pretty dominant. Or Inca Quechuas/Persian Immortals in ultra-early rushes (AI simply doesn't understand how to respond). Let me put this another way: nearly all of the Hall of Fame scores at CivFanatics are submitted on Marathon speed. Shouldn't that tell you something? wink

Quick, Normal, and Epic speeds were all part of Civ4's release, and they all got thorough testing before release. Marathon was added in a patch, and was never tested for balance at all. There's no harm in playing around with it, but you can only stretch game speed so far before things begin to break. I'd encourage players to stick to the other speeds, but your milage may vary.

Ahh - that explains it. I was playing a marathon game as Egypt and my war chariots were running wild for ages over everyone. I couldn't understand why I could build a war chariot in 5 turns but it took 30 turns to research iron working.

Hi,

sooooo Wrote:The event will close 3 weeks on Monday, April 2nd.
Ouch, that's a short duration. frown But then no map size was specified, and maybe 5 opponents means it's not a big map...still, might get hard for me to play this game and report properly, but I'll try and give my best.

The variant is very interesting, although milking could be an issue...

Thanks sooooo for organizing this! thumbsup
