Some input is needed here.....from those of you who play Diablo while listening to a CD or whatever (if you don't listen to the actual Diablo CD soundtrack, that is).
What music do you listen to while playing Diablo? Is there a specific album or group? A specific song? Iâd like to make a compilation of tunes that reflect the Diablo dungeon experience.
Anything goes -- rock, opera, orchestral music, Gregorian chants, movie soundtracks, TV show theme music, etc.
You can be broad and general (Wagnerâs Ring reeks of Diablo), or more specific (Hell is Wagnerâs Ring Chapter XV, Giants theme music) or very specific (Tom Waitâs album "Blood Money" -- the song Knife Chase has Leoric written all over it!).
If you have a specific tune (and hoping it wonât be too hard to track down!), could you share it? And if you have a specific album/artist, could you share that too?
Thanking you in advance.

PS OK, the first CD is done; see below for details. Thanks to all who helped.

Hi
I never do listen to other music while playing.
But (and I am seriously hesitating before admitting this)... I hum. There are often songs in my head that are summoned by the adventure. ![[Image: guitar.gif]](http://realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/guitar.gif) Sometimes they get stuck there, so they just keep getting repeated. ![[Image: rant.gif]](http://realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/rant.gif) And only the tempo will reflect the game activity.
So, having admitted this, I will say that In the Hall of the Mountain King has fit many an adventure.

Input in these areas:
The City of Tristram -- melancholy, etherial music
Church/Monastery entrance -- sinister music, nothing too much, lots of strings?
Cats entrance -- since Cats is really the home of goat-kin, something foreboding but with heavy warlike drum, like goat stomping out a war dance.
Caves entrance -- sizzling? burning? The anvil of fury? Lightning beasts? Rock cracking? No idea here!
Hell entrance -- music as sinister and ominous as possible -- full orchestra?
Diablo dead! -- triumphant music
And specific tunes for:
The Butcher
Leoric
Diablo and the Diablo fight
Undead
Bats
Goats
Fallen
Blood Knights
Witches
Mages
and any foes Iâve missed that you have tunes for!
And even songs for such things as:
Gear retrieveal
Ressing a friend
Lamenting a fallen friend
Running for your life
Fighting to the death
Pepin
Adria
Griswold
Cain
If you have a specific tune (and hoping it wonât be too hard to track down!), could you share it? And if you have a specific album/artist, could you share that too?

I still listen to the original in-game music for Diablo and most other games. A few thoughts come to mind for this thread nonetheless.
If you happen to have the Icewind Dale soundtrack CD, you could get a lot of good options from that. "Easthaven in Pieces" would work well for a Tristram theme, "Lower Dorn's Deep" for hell, and so on.
King Crimson's "Epitaph" captures the mood of Diablo very well and could be used for either the town or church entrance.
Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor might work for church music, being both sinister and sacred.
Metallica's S&M (f. the SF Symphony Orchestra) has some instrumental passages that would work, particularly "The Call of Ktulu".
I thought to record some Diablo themed music a few months ago while messing around with software synths, but so far that hasn't happened (unless you consider a cover of "House of the Rising Sun" Diablo themed, anyway).

That reminds me, there was some asylum-ite or DSFer involved in producing a catchy metal song. The featured voice is Lazarus, "Hail and Sacrifice to Diablo, Lord of Terror and Destroyer of Souls"
DII.net also has a hilarious "Gharabad at the Roxbury" if you haven't heard it yet.

These days I tend to prefer acoustic instruments to electric. That said, Apocalyptica (four cellists from the Sibelius Institute playing the music of Metallica) should fit in somewhere. I really like their version of The Unforgiven. I made a compilation CD including that followed by Barber's Agnus Dei (the choral arrangement of his Adagio for Strings).

And it was called "Lord of Terror", by Bjorn Glasare. Killer guitar riffs. I still have a copy, if anyone wants. MP3 format. Circa 2001, according to the file info.
Great tune. I'm going to listen to it now.

As stated above, the first CD of Diablo music is done. It's twenty songs long and lasts 65 min 37 sec.
I'd be happy to send you a copy. Just follow the directions at the DSF thread to get yours.
