So quite often when an event is announced, you get all those questions about whats allowed etc.

You are also required to switch to and remain in the following civics for the remainder of the game as soon as their corresponding techs are discovered:

- Free Market (Economics)

What happens if the UN passes a Global Environmentalism civic?

Now this set me off onto a weird question.

What would happen to Civics passed through the UN, if the UN was destroyed by razing the city containing it? Would Civ's be free to adopt whatever they like again?

Do the best you can to remain in Free Market at all times. If you're forced into Environmentalism against your will, no big deal.

In the incredibly unlikely event that you are 1) forced out of Free Market and into Environmentalism 2) the UN is razed, you should just revert back to Free Market again. OK?

I don't think Dantski is referring to the specific case in the game. Instead, he is generally asking what happens when the UN is razed?

I would assume that all civs are free to change to a different civic.

Good question. I don't think I've ever seen the UN raised, though I'm sure players who do a lot more late game waring than I have seen it happen. Sometimes it might even be worth doing deliberately if a larger empire has been forced out of Communism by a weak power who happened to build the UN.

If UN is razed, previous resolutions are void. So yes, you can go back to free market, build nukes or whatever.

If you are pop leader, another (highly dodgy) trick with the UN is build it next to a small, hated neighbour, then same turn gift the city to them. Then you're easily the sec general and can probably win the game. Obviously don't do that in a RB event unless you want a torrent of abuse .

How does gifting it give you an advantage?

Because if you're the population leader, by giving it to a hated small Civ, it makes them your U.N opponent and your chances of Diplo victory skyrocket in theory

If you control the UN, the elections are you vs the #1 AI, who probably got to be #1 because he has several friends trading with him. With this trick, the election is instead the smallest AI, who doesn't have many votes and is probably not well-liked, against you.

Makes sense as much as anything that involves a competitor in the game deliberately voting for another player to win...
