Man, the only thing I have against the pre-game discourse is that you guys seem to be posting the ideas I'm thinking of right the day after I think of them. The presumption of being "creative" or "original" is gone right there. Still, the craziest idea I've come up with has yet to be mentioned... I don't think it's feasable to win with, but it would be funny.

I feel so old fashioned now, but I really feel like we've gone way too far with discussing strategies and potential combinations with this one. I realize that Sulla OKed the comments that had already been made at the time that he posted yesterday, but I think it was also specifically recommended that future thoughts be saved for after the game.

So, now I'm going to ask, nicely for now. Please save your thoughts about tech choices and strategies for the game's discussion.

I don't want to reveal any spoilers, but I think I can pass this on: out of the 21 players signed up so far, I've gotten requests for 13 different starting technologies. Best wishes to everyone, and I believe we're going to have a lot of fun in a month when this game closes.

Great idea and a tough choice on which technology to choose.

MrWhite89 previously asked how to set up a similar game, the only way I know is to roll a game the normal way and then enter the worldbuilder and add the tech in question, unfortunately this also reveals the map to you but for a quick test it’ll be ok.

I would like to thank T-Hawk for posting his thoughts, sure made me go over the tech-tree again to wonder what to pick. Being a casual player I had some simple thoughts about what to choose but the amount of options suddenly exploded and almost a week later I’ve still not figured out what to choose.

A word of advice to my fellow noble players: Don’t forget to consider what a specific tech might make obsolete. And also remember the cost of producing your favourite building or unit; it’s no good to have high-end military available if it takes 50 turns to build one.

Already up to 800 AD and having a ton of fun. There was a chance I'd be horribly disappointed by the map and be unable to play the variant I wanted, but that didn't turn out to be the case. After this game, I might play another with my alternate choice of tech, just to see how it would have gone.

Sulla or anyone else with knowledge I don't have: How do you enable a tech that you havn't researched? I'd like to play around with this idea, but I'm not sure how to set it up on my own. Is it just something from the worldbuilder, or do you have to edit text files of some sort?

It's in worldbuilder. You just select yourself and then add technologies.
