Adventure Nineteen - Mao's Muse - Opening Next Week (4/23)

This is not a discussion of tech choice, but another possible varient that could've came up was fixing communism as the starting tech choice. The 10th muse could've showed him visions of the poor and the misery of the West during the dark ages, than in the industrial revolution, than brining large cannons to bombard Chinese costs...

... and communism is the final solution!

I thought about playing, but finally decided not to because the most powerful choices would also be the most uninteresting.

This should prove to be very interesting....

I'm still struggling somewhat at lower levels of difficulty. This is monarch, so I expect to get KILLED. I'm wondering what I will find when I open the game. Will I be able to build units based on the chosen tech right way? Or will I have to wait until I find that resource? (Which will probably not be revealed right away?)

As a brief introduction, I'm a 50-something father of 4. I've been playing strategy games off and on for a number of years. Wanted to play CIV a while back, but had a REALLY low end PC - well below the minimum. Now I have a decent machine and love CIV 4... Play when I can, but family life and other activiies limit the amount of time I can play...

The name is from back in my high-school days, when I took Latin for my language requirement. We didn't have to pick a MODERN language.

Brantlicus,

Hi and welcome smile.

If you choose a tech that enables a unit that requires a special resource, you will still have to connect the resource to build the unit. Good luck!

It's not just a matter of connecting the resource, you also need to be able to see it. So if you choose Railroad as the tech you still need to research all the way up to Steam Power to reveal coal before you can build your rails. But you could build the Machine Gun as your first unit, would take forever to do though.

This is going to be so much fun on report day! Good luck to all muses!

i'm lucky, i can get hubby to do that for me while i'm out of the room, so i can preserve the map suspense smile. i had two games in a row where there was NO COAL on my continent at all. the next game, i had him check in WB for coal on my side of the world. i didn't care whether it was anywhere near my starting spot, i just wanted reassurance i'd not have to cross the ocean for it, i was getting way too frustrated!

i emailed my sign up for this one, figured i better go ahead and just pick a tech or i'd still be having internal debate on May 20th. chances are slim i'll actually write up a report of a finished game in time, i never have before. but at least i can contribute thoughts about what i picked, and why, and how my planned tactics worked out for as much of the game as i do end up playing. good luck all!

I was wondering about this. I won't manage to play this game now, but still would like to get the save. I download all of the RB events to play at my convience as a shadow game as I rarely manage to get it done in time (managed 2 or 3 reports only I believe).

Will it be possible to download the save file later without the extra tech?

If not, could I ask for it now without any extra tech choosen? I could assingn myself one later in the WB (the game will be spoiled anyway from reading the reports).
I don't want to cause any extra work, because I'm very sure I won't manage to play the game within the assigned time, so I'm, reluctant to ask for the save file to be sent to me. I did that for Epic 8 (?) and didn't get it played in time. I still feel guilty for that. smile

Sina, we plan on making a Worldbuilder save file for the game available for download after Adventure 19 closes. For now though, if you want a save file you'll have to specify a starting tech like everyone else. smile

I don't want to reveal any spoilers, but I think I can pass this on: out of the 21 players signed up so far, I've gotten requests for 13 different starting technologies. Best wishes to everyone, and I believe we're going to have a lot of fun in a month when this game closes. smile
I am still working on my thesis, but I plan on finishing soon. Could I get a save at a later date or have I missed the boat?

ps. I still have no idea what tech I would want, so... many... good ideas, so... many... variants, head... may... explode

caution! sidetrack approaching!

i was goofing off in the xml files last week and laughed out loud when i realized that communism is actually listed in those files as TECH_UTOPIA. all of the other ones i looked at have names you'd expect, the same names they have in the game. perhaps Mao would approve.
