[Spoilers] Commodore as someone of something, or, an entertaining failure

So we live in rather interesting times, I think. Here's the situation at the end of this turn. Ceil, fundamentally cautious, will have a choice next turn as we stare at him here. Either he can try to retreat, or else he can let us run towards his own micro-candy-land. I suspect he'll hold, which makes things a bit ticklish.

He doesn't have a vast army lurking in the shadows from these power ratings, so that's good. Our cruddy GNP means we're in trouble for the religion/Oracle run, but as long as we can get Priesthood in a decent time-frame we ought to be okay. This is nerve-wracking, I must admit.

Hum. Bit of a sticky wicket, Mr. Azul.

Hopefully the fool warrior will soon realize what's good for him and head out of there. Although, I did notice that his post count in his thread is rather high, so alternatively maybe's he's planning something devious...

So, let's assume that he's going to be a bit of a bother and stick around to play awhile longer. Are our Ursa's going to move on, try to flush him out, or what?

Tried to flush him out, and died along with both workers, the settler, and any hope of winning the game. Sorry guys, so at least we'll all be able to read the other threads. I'm not really in the mood to play out things much further. Here's the story, really, in one image:

So yeah, now I feel kind of silly for getting all enthused about the game. Like Kyan, I wagered it all on a shot in the 70s, but this time it was a pure loss.

So seriously, does anyone see a possible win condition here? If I hear someone suggest a conceivable way for us with our current assets:
-One size 2 city with netted fish and improved deer.
-One warrior, confused and on a hill
-Five roads
To actually win the game at this point, I'm happy to entertain a Hail Mary, by all means, but unless it's something that has a chance of victory, I'm not really interested. A long, dragging loser war of spite is a depressing notion.

Bear in mind, there is one C1/Shock Kyan warrior three turns out down south, and one wounded (but probably not much after promoting) C1/Shock/something Ceiliazul warrior three turns out up north. Oh, and also thanks to turn order and Plako's Peaks, both players can see into the capital.

Wow, that just blows. So much for Oracle too.

Well, if you're playing for pure obstinacy, I think you need to build warriors and tech archery. If you want to go for a long-shot, move your warrior somewhere to give Ceil 60-40 odds and hope for a dice roll to go your way to get rid of the choke. Then hook up the copper and whip/chop axes galore.

Given the caliber of your opponents, no. You're now cast in the role of Sian in your PBEM26 game alright.

Meh, apparently, except thanks to the danger-close map it's turn 28, and it's less a series of mistakes and more a single throw of the dice. Ah well. Two more turns have seen Ceil unmercifully sitting around and healing while Kyan nears. I moved behind my city to the only tile that Kyan, at least, cannot see.

Unfortunately, Kyan is also around and just as tough as Ceil if not more so. The shock warrior is too strong to wipe out, and the 20% odds attack failed.

Amusingly, GE has a scout that turned up just in time to watch this sordid little drama finish. I'll be amused if the damnfool manages to somehow get himself killed by Kyan. Last thing we need is another promo on that warrior.

It's a hard choice what to do next turn. I'll strike out to try and kill Kyan's warrior, then it's a question of dry-whipping a warrior to survive another useless turn or giving the unearned city to Kyan. Thing is, as unearned as it is, a second free city might be the only thing that makes the game interesting to watch for the lurkers, otherwise Ceil has this made.

Might have been a mistake to make it in this format. I have issues with how insanely close this map is, but the other issue is pretty obvious upon reflection; Kyan and I have both had to risk our games on middling-odds gambles, because we each got double-teamed...whereas I assuming Ceil and Dazed have not, because abutting GE they have one flank auto-secure.

So another sad turn, another loss at 70% odds. I think I'll mass a few billion axes and attack someone, if Ceil continues to be unmerciful. KILL ME, YOU BASTARD.

Rather than make, say, four axes, Team Spain built Stonehenge. That's just mean, man. Although I must say I approve of their theme.

So this turn, we won the first battle ever this game! Of course, it was against a scout (GE's), and we took waaay more damage than we should have, but oh well. If Ceil moves in, we gonna die. If not, well, we'll survive and whip/chop a million axes.

Wither shall they go, my friends?

Welcome to my world, this is all it is, this is all it will ever be. The mauled warrior that killed GE's scout died trying to attack Kyan's veteran at 39% odds, but damaged it enough to not strike at home. Meanwhile, Ceil is caught on the horns of a dilemma, unable to take the capital without risking wounding me enough to allow Kyan to take it. So, I grew this turn, putting seven hammers into a warrior.

What am I doing, then? Well, teching Archery would just make me a loser, frankly. But last turn Kyan founded Buddhism in his second city, so he must be going for the Oracle. We have nothing to do but contemplate our navels anyway, so why not race him?

The "win" condition (hah!) is killing off the super-warriors somehow, chopping the Oracle to Metal Casing, whipping forge, and then run an engineer to get a ~58% shot at a GE and the 'mids. There are roughly a billion issues with this plan, but hey, why not play an awesome OCC?

Honestly, you have no idea how many times I've contemplated just deleting the warrior and dying. frown
