First off, I don't know whether I'll make GvG on Friday or not, it depends on what's happening and whether I feel I'll make a contribution to the team or just be dead weight.
Anyways, I think we need to divide GvG into 2 groups. We'll still have the Friday meetings, but instead they'll be a bit more casual, like what AB does. This doesn't mean it'll be bring whatever you want, but it does mean we won't be running a specific build. People show up on a char they want to play (hopefully some people will want to monk) and then I can make some changes to bars to "tweak" them (aka if someone shows up with Spiteful Spirit, that's getting replaced), along with Fox if he wants to. The atmosphere will be more laid back and match reports will be optional. Also, and here's the big kicker, leadership will be changed around so that everyone will eventually get experience leading the group.
The other team will meet more regularly, maybe 3 times per week to start out, and will be more of a focused group for those who want to be competative. Egos and jokes will not be allowed in the match and we will analyze every match after we play it, watching observer to see what we did right and where we can improve. We will be running a specific build that we all agree on (probably taken from observer) and it's up to each person to make sure they have the skills and items available to play at least 2 of the characters in case we want to change around between matches. This will be the team with higher expectations on players.
Obviously, neither team should expect to make it on the ladder (or very high on it, if we somehow manage to get our rating up to that point), but it's very clear, to me at least, that people in the guild have very different expectations for GvG and I know I'm not the only one that would like to get a bit more competative without becoming a hardcore GvG guild.
That's all for now.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to let you guys know that I won't make to to GvG on Friday night - we're going to be out of town.
Regarding your new plan for GvG: I'm sorry that I won't be able to participate in the Competitive team - it sounds like you're going to need people to show up 3X per week, all the time, and I just can't commit to that, even though I really look forward to our GvG outings. I hope you guys are still going to participate on Friday nights, otherwise the Less Competitive GvG is going to just wither on the vine.

Yeah, there is some wisdom to to the way AB does things. Our current semi-organized attempts tend to discourage a number of "feeling noob" players, those with limited unlocks, and people who want to do their own thing (warblade ) , but since we are often lacking 8 players anyway I don't see a good reason to do that.
In the past there would be more of an issue with trying to run competitive and casual teams out of the same guild, but I don't think that is a problem anymore. There are so few playing on the ladder that rating doesn't greatly determine your opponents, and if the competitive team can reach critical mass, they can participate in tournaments and fight the best opponents when they want to, even shooting for earning QPs to play in the championships.
I'm interested in both groups but not for another week or two. Finals and all that. I'm also not sure where you will find diehards besides me and Roland, our guild is just generally rather laid back, but hope we can shore some up. Edit: actually we can probably get Moo onboard if we can pick a time that's friendly to him.
P.S. you need to log on AIM occasionally, too many times me and Roland or AB get something rolling on the weekends and you aren't around.

For the diehards I was thinking of doing more combined efforts with AB. Claws, Rad and Derezer are generally available most of the time so if you take you, me, Roland, and possibly Moo (depending on time) then we would only need 1 more. I would say Docile, but the whole lack of voice chat thing is a bit of a pain. Really, the 8 of us were working quite well together as a team back when we had both ours and AB4s ratings over 1000.
Realistically, ATs are not something our guild is going to be able to do unless we recruit more GvG diehards.
As for me not signing on to AIM, well, that's more complicated. Usually, I don't turn it on because it feels like the only thing I use it for is paging people and since hardly anyone ever messages me I've taken to not bothering to use it when I'm not looking for someone.

I really wouldn't mind doing more GvG. However the time is very important for me. It is already hard to be there each week on the friday nights. I definatly can't do that 3 times a week. So yes i am interested, but only if the time is more suitable for me.

When did I become chopped liver and tell you guys No? lol Roland always manages to convince me to come and probably always will. I will continue to do what I can. I will learn how to Monk if Wyrm will teach me. Yes I said that out loud.
Thanks Fellas,

Well I watched how both Seijin and Xyn handled that build as well and when one 1 out of 3 can (arguably) make it work by ignoring his elite for the first 10 minutes and then there's just a slight, niggling little problem.

I don't really consider you a diehard because, well, you're not. You give off the impression that you're there more to help us out and be a team player than to be competative, which is fine for casual meetings but not so much when we want to start being a threat to top 500 guilds - not so much being in the top 500 ourselves, but being able to stand up to them and make them bleed, possibly taking a few wins, when we get matched against them.
Also, if you want to be competative you're going to want to get a few more professions under your belt. We did the same thing to Hawkmoon and even Moo to a certain extent; the more professions you can play the better off both you and the team will be.

I'm not really sure I could teach you anything you can't get from experience; that's how I learned. I can offer one insight though, what's on your skill bar isn't as important as how you use it.

Some of us have discussed changing the starting time for casual GvG, instead getting things organized around 7-7:30 PM EDT. The idea is to get our europeans like Moo and Arctic involved and to bed a bit earlier; it especially sucks if we are stuck setting up for an hour and then they only get to play 3 or so games. I know Hawkmoon and maybe Wyrm have time commitments and probably can't come that early, but between more in-guild interested in PvP and more allies/guests, we can probably manage to get 8 anyway. When other guildies sign on later, there will certainly be people wanting to swap out and then these folks can step in. The guild will probably still end up going to 11ish so the later folks shouldn't be gipped on time and can probably get more gaming in since setup will already be done by then.
So, starting at 7 PM EDT for those that can come.... does this sound like a plan?
