Oops, sorry for the mis-info, is there a list somewhere of the changes?

for any curious pessismists like me, the wording from the official press release is: "In addition to the licensed 2K Sports lineup, starting in 2008, 2K will have new content based on its Civilization franchise and other products, including both original intellectual property and third-party titles." 2008 is defined by take2/2K as starting november 1, 2007. i wish i knew how they defined "content", is that a game or an expansion? even the "based on its Civilization franchise" can set me off ... why not just say "in the series"? please don't release Civilization: The MMORPG! but now i'm going majorly offtopic.
i didnt get to read the actual interview. it was pulled down, i guess for security purposes, until june by the time i clicked on the link. maybe from reading it you can tell.

Civ4 Complete or something similar? Anyways yeah we're totally cruising off-topic here...
I'd have to say I'm in agreement with Atlas... Would you rather have Civ3's GP system where it was total luck? Or Civ3's combat system that was notoriously streaky? I actually don't mind needing a little bit of MM (the two major one's are being hit on, GP and combat promotions) in order to put more control in the hands of the player, and add more strategic decisions. What would be really cool if Firaxis made an official mod or put a game-mode in that eliminated some of these things, call it like "simple Civ" or something like that (preferably less corny-sounding than that). it would take a lot of work balancing (and probably would never happen), but it sure would be nice for a sick day or something where you don't feel like thinking much, but the thought of kicking the crap out of Montezuma still sounds like fun... Personally I can understand some of the complaints about to much micro, but I just don't see another alternative.

If you want to do that now, just drop down a few levels and play AW. I'm playing a game right now as JC on Noble (Great plains map). With these settings, it takes NO thought. Just build praetorians and destroy!

Alpha Centauri 2, using the Civ 4 engine and AI. :prays:
Firaxis has an ongoing poll asking what Firaxis/Sid game should have a remake/sequel. Pirates was in the lead until that remake became reality. And now AC is handily on top:

Alpha Centauri 2 with the broken stuff fixed (cough supply crawlers) would be great.

I think that many of the ideas sound great. You can always expect them to have more civs, leaders, units, wonders etc., but as far as improving the late game, I think that it is a great idea. If anybody here has played games with random events, you will know that it can be a good or bad thing, depending on how the game devolopers make it. Meaning that if they capitalize on the possibilities, random events could add a new element to gameplay, that would be fun, if slightly throwing the game off balance. I think balance in a game is overvalued. If a game has perfect ballance, then about when you reach the industrial age, you already know who is going to win basically. If oter elements were added, that could upset the balance in the late game, I might actually play through an entire game, a feat accomplished only twice by me.
Also, not mentioned in the preveiw, but mentioned elsewhere, the AI is supposed to pursue other methods of victory. If this is actually implemented, BtS will be the best X-pack ever for a civ game, because I actually want another huge civ to rival me at the end of the game, with only one civ left. In fact, if they could make it so that the AI was better at war, that would be great too.
The corprations I am in doubt of. Sure, religion is pretty much a closed opportunity in the last half of the game, but instead of spreading religion out over the entire game, they make a second religion system. While this might work, I am in doubt.
The leader thing I am sure wont be a problem, because either A: everybodys doing it, so everyone will have equal opportunity, or B: there can be a rule enforced by the host that civs must have a leader belonging to that civ. Btw, did they say that this all leaders thing extend to single player also?
And in response to a post way back in page two, the menu music for Warlords is more
:2dance: MANLY! *pimp*
than the menu music in the core game

Another one just popped up, this time with IGN:
http://pc.ign.com/articles/788/788749p1.html
Among other things, there is apparently an espionage slider now, as in just like techs/gold/culture... Sitting Bull of the Native Americans is confirmed in (that was pretty much set in stone already), as well as Joao II of Portugal (I've honestly never heard of him, I feel like an idiot). Great Spies are born just like scientists, artists, engineers, etc. Also apparently with the Space Race it takes a chapter out of Civ2 in that just because you launch first does not mean you win, you win once your spaceship arrives at Alpha Centauri, not when you launch, so if someone after you has a faster spaceship and they overtake you, they win. He mentioned a few other things but this is all that seemed important.
Edit: One More Thing: apparently there is a new unit called the "Cuirassier" which replaces the old Cavalry in the tech tree, and Cavalry got pushed back to Rifling. Apparently the goal was to make the military tradition beeline strategy less dominant, which is probably a good thing, since I do that way too much.

Great Spies strike me as a very bad idea if you ask me.:P
