I'm willing to make a map for you guys.
If I'm going to make your map, I want this all in one spot. I want a post that has all map-relevant info that I can keep up in a tab, so I don't miss anything. Right now about all I know is 'not too gimmicky'. But frankly I don't usually have time for the more elaborate maps, anyway. I'll start on a map tonight, if your preferences and leader choices are collated and in.
It'll probably take a few days to produce, between my schedule and getting lurker input, but the sooner I can start, the sooner you'll be playing.
Also, I'm happy to receive your civ/leader requests lists (by PM), and do the assignment of people to leaders, if you're using the 'standard' approach. That is, everyone send me a list of 3-4 leaders in rank order, I'll hope to give you your first choice. If people overlap, I'll break ties randomly. You need to pin down the ban list first, of course.
Ah...just to confirm, Ravus is out, for this one? So I can do leader assignment as soon as I have the 5th request in?

Why on earth would you want to ban Rhoanna?

She's good but by no means one the most powerful leaders, but she might very well be the most newbie-friendly leader with one of the most newbie-friendly nations. So maybe that?

Seems to me that she (along with Hannah and possibly Varn) are top of the pack, once the obviously broken leaders are removed.
I don't feel strongly about it; I'm happy to have them in if that's what others would prefer.
Thanks for agreeing to make the map, Mardoc. I don't have many preferences about it myself. No unique features next to starting locations, starts reasonably balanced between the players, no real thoughts about it beyond that.

Here's all the map related stuff I was able to find in this thread: Quote:Ellimist Wrote:Unique Features: Mapmaker's discretion, but I'd prefer if most of them weren't placed near player start positions.
Preplaced Barb cities/units: Mapmaker's discretion.
General map thoughts: A relatively well balanced map that doesn't starve the players for hammers/food/commerce. It doesn't have to be lush, but let's not force everybody into certain civics in order to compete. I would prefer if it were large enough that all players had decent room to expand, but not too large.
I don't care if it's natural looking, some of the best maps are heavily edited, but all civs should start on the same landmass. Certain civs(Lanun, for example) should also not be screwed over by the map.
Please also have the map open to lurker input before the game starts. There have been a few maps lately that had major flaws overlooked due to only one person being involved in checking them.
Other than that, feel free to use whatever mapscript or edits you think would be best.

Map: Free hand to the mapmaker.

Ellimist Wrote:Unique features- Mapmakers discretion. Not too close to start areas though. I'm also not a fan of putting held super-units on them.
Lairs- on
Huts- Mapmakers discretion
All players on same continent
My personal preference is for a relatively normal map. Big, but not huge. Creativity and gimmicks are okay, but let's not starve the players for food/hammers/commerce or force a particular direction. Please also give lurkers a chance to review it.

Agree with all these points re: unique features.
Lairs- On
Huts- On
Preference for a land-based, large map. Would be nice to have some islands to give naval units a place, but not too fussed about this.

Unique Units - Mapmakers decision
Lairs- On
Huts- On
I have only one request if it's a new-ish map-maker; get people to double check! I don't mind waiting an extra week to get lurkers to glance over the map. I've messed up map making myself so I know that the checking stage is important.
Preferance for no pre-placed improvements. Apart from that I don't care about size or shape.
HidingKneel Wrote:Unique features: In, not near starting locations.
Huts: On
Lairs: On
General thoughts on map: As long as it's not overly biased towards particular players or playstyle, I have no objections to anything a mapmaker cooks up.
Yell0w Wrote:Unique features Mapmakers discretion. Not too close to start areas though.
Lairs - On
Huts - don't care
All players on same continent
Creative maps are sure nice and I'd like to play on one, but playability and balance should come first, though we playing a variant game so balance might be off anyways.
So it looks like you have a relatively free hand.
Relatively large would be nice too. Otherwise Bob/Hyborem won't have any shot at all.

For leader bans, it looks like it's going to be Keelyn/Flauros/Illians. Everyone please send their top three picks to Mardoc.

If Ravus is still not that interested, I have time for a game again after pbem33 ended prematurely. Let me know and I can submit choices etc. if you need me.

Oh, I'll need you guys to give me a player order, too.
And a preferred difficulty.
And a decision on whether Kyan is in or out.
Probably more mapmaker requests to follow, as I find topics.
Ah...so far I only have civ choices from HidingKneel.

Shark warning! Although that might be okay. Uh, Kyan, do you mean PBEM 31?
