Interview with Alex Mantzaris about BTS

As mentioned before, we are the minority who will look at a list of additions and assume (correct or not) the unbalances.

The majority will look at the list and say "Goody! More toys to play around with."

CiV4 suffers from the no war or total war syndrom.

Something which Europa Universalis and Master of Orion 1 solved way better.

War Weariness is a poor way to get the wars shorter.

Seeing the highlights from the PC Gamer article on the CFC page isn't improving my thoughts of the expansion any. "high-powered artillery" ... as if they aren't powerful enough as they are right now rolleye

From the BTS highlights over at CFC:
Quote:Anti-Tank Gun: Is an inexpensive early counter to Tanks. You are no longer helpless if your enemy is first to Industrialism and has access to Oil.
huh
I mean, if your enemy is first to tanks and oil, YOU ARE TOAST! That's the point in teching to tanks and securing oil. Or what am I missing? Introducing cheap anti tank units is going to stun one of the most effective military strategies in the game and in real life.

I agree - there is a counter to tanks, called Gunships. Adding an early (Assembly Line???) counter that must be like strength 16 with 100% bonus against tanks seems hard to balance. If the unit is "cheap" as they claim, it might make tanks just plain unusable frown

Whilst I am also sceptic. Spearman don´t obsolete Horse Archers, as well.wink

You're right, but tanks have another couple of considerations: first of all, tactical combat late in the game isn't the same sort of triangle design it is early, where HAs beat Axes, which beat Spears, which beat HAs. Late game war should possibly take SOME input from real-life, and if real-life personal tank destroyers would never have the same role as simply having more and better Armor. Besides this however, Oil is a second requirement for tanks. So I think the proper balance is achieved - if someone can tech ahead AND control Oil, they have an advantage. They aren't unstoppable however, since City Garrison Infantry can still hold them off in cities. This new change seems designed to remove much of the rewards for pulling off early tanks.

Well, I am more worried about the espionage screwup.

Corporations if not overdone, sound like a good idea to me, the more I think about it.
