This looks interesting -- thanks for sponsoring this, Sulla.
I've tried a couple of the recent events, but didn't finish in time. I'll give this one a try and see if I can complete it. Being on Prince (the highest difficultly level I've won at so far) helps, although I've never tried a cultural victory before.
Should be a fun challenge.

Done! 8)
Nice idea, fun game. Now, to wait all these long weeks for reporting day. Sigh.

OK, I'm confused about how mods are loaded. Is it possible that there's a mod in the 4000BC save file, or does it always look for CustomAssets in my folder? I ask this because I lost a couple axemen to attacking chariots when I expected to win. When I checked, the chariots have a 100% bonus vs. axemen.
Now, my unoffical games are played with the BetterAI mod coupled with the above change, but I thought I had swapped in the default custom assets. So, bottom line: have I relegated myself to the shadows, or is the chariot bonus built into the original save?

The chariot bonus is built into Warlords, but not Vanilla, right?

Chariots do not have any bonus against axes in regular Civ4.
If you are seeing any such bonus, it's the result of a mod that you're running, not something built into the original save. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! You've got to be careful with those custom assets.

Shadow game complete. I had a lot more fun than I expected; I hope that anyone else who tries this game will be able to say the same.

1) as a folder under the MOD directory in your 'prog files' directory
2) as a folder under the MOD directory in your 'my games' directory
3) as a customassets under your 'my games' directory
1) and 2) are hard coded into any save game and require that the game is loaded under the correct mod to work. If you have the mod installed and double click a save using that mod, it will auto-load and you are good to go. If you have started the game and load a save that includes a mod, it will prompt you about that and give you the option of restarting the game with the correct mod. If you don't have the mod installed, it will not load at all.
Any mods under 3) are used for all games you load (with or without another mod) unless the assets are locked. The easiest way to load a game that ignores the customassets mods is to rename your customassets folder (I use 'customassets-ruff mod+bluemarble'). The game will auto-create a blank customassets folder if it doesn't find one.
Unfortunately, there is no easy way to tell if you are playing a game with something in your customassets folder. The way I handle this is to have different colour themes (green for ruff-mod, red for RB events, etc) and then use a VB program to flick between the various customasset folders that I have. So, if I start a RB event and my colour scheme is green, then I know straight off that I have the wrong customassets loaded.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

This has been a very fun game so far -- thanks again to Sulla for sponsoring.
As I posted earlier in thread, I've never tried for a culture victory before, and I don't think I'm going about it very well. Could someone recommend a game report or two of a well-played cultural victory? Not a culture-as-domination-tool game (a la Sulla's 'Passive Agressive Hatty' game), but a straight culture victory? I could use some pointers.
Thanks!

How about RB....19? True Cultural Challenge - just go to Civfanatics SG page and search by total number of views. It shows a cultural victory WITHOUT the culture slider, basically very close to what we do here. Happy reading!

What sunrise said, that was a great succession game, very educational, I read it through when this event was announced.
Edit: also, Kylearan did a good report way back, it was a 3CC cultural game, here's the link: http://www.compoundeye.net/civ/legendary...index.html.
