Welcome

Well, I've arrived. A lot of settings default to off, including images, avatars, and signatures. Arriving players will need to customize their user data to ensure they receive the level of access they desire. Civ and Moo players in particular will need to enable images if they want to enjoy any tourney reports posted directly to the forum.

There are three steps to resetting your password. You log in and click "forgot my password". Then an email is sent to you. You receive that, click a link in it, and verify that you are who you claim to be by having access to your own email account. Then a second email is sent to you, with a second link. You click that and go in to reset your password to what you want. Once that's done, you should set your user preferences, including linear or threaded view, allowing images, sigs or avatars, etc.

Could take a little getting used to, and maybe a wrinkle or two to iron out. For instance, I was unable to choose an avatar for myself. Not sure why. However, once we are settled, we should be good for a long time to come. smile

Well that's odd- in linear mode, it apparently shows posts in *ascending* and not *descending* mode, but in hybrid and threaded it's the other way around. I'll see if I can change that.

Thanks for the step-by-step login instructions. Since I had to create an account here while I was installing the forum, the process was different for me, and I didn't have an imported account I could use to test things out with. So, I don't know what trhe experience is like for registered users.

Apparently vBulletin doesn't allow remote avatars, apparently as a security precaution. It does have the capability to upload users' avatars, but I would need to get permission from our host before I could turn that on. So for now, no avatars. cry

I've been working on the to-do list this afternoon. There's not a lot of non-antialiased buttons available, and since vB3 is newish, that just makes it harder. I uploaded some from an all-black forum template, because at least they look better than the ones designed for a white background. There's a few, like the active users and forum statistics ones, that will need to be done by hand at some point.

I accidentally deleted the custom smilies at the old forum when I upgraded them. But, I have uploaded some new smilies here that should get us started.

I think I will need to call it a day. I've been working on this pretty much all day, just on the skinning and little tweaks.

The message box I'm typing into is too small. I'll see if I can make it bigger.

Sirian, what do you want to do about the Imperium reporting?

I'm testing the "reply" button at the bottom of the thread- my guess is we have to use "quick reply" to preserve the thread tree. I might want to take out the big reply button, but get a bigger one for quick reply.

Quick reply currently doesn't use the full reply toolbar, either, but I could make it use that one if I have to. I'd rather find a non-quick "reply to post" command somewhere.

You guys can set your own titles now. It defaults to "Lurker" if you haven't posted, or "Member" if you have.

Heh, I said I was done for the day. splat

I see progress on smilies. That's good.

After shutting down to watch the football game this evening, upon return I am not getting a threaded view? I had set that in my profile.

Also, when I -was- using the threaded view earlier, the window was like three inches tall. Only enough room to show about eight replies at a time. Gah, hated that. If N54 did one thing right, it was to let me see a full page at a time of threaded posts and titles.

Well now... that's -really- odd. I started to get the threaded view after making my post. I hope it doesn't always take some kind of activity on each visit to "awaken" the fully threaded view. eek

Signatures didn't get munched, at least not all of them. Mine was there. The issue seems to be that pretty much all "cool feature" forum stuff is defaulted to off for users.

For instance, view signatures, view avatars, view pics, allow pm's, allow emails, and maybe a few other items. All that is defaulted to off, so everyone really needs to go to their user CP and turn stuff on (unless you really dont wan't that stuff =/)

I suspect it's a result of trying to make an invision board user profile work in a vbulletin forum. Even things like member groups were different when I imported them. IPB and VB use virtually identical default member groups, but because there is a slight variation in the name of the groups, it saw the imported user groups as two separate groups.

All in all, I'm happy that we were able to move over as much information as we did. That's certainly not something we were able to do when leaving Network54! crazyeye

heart I think a HUGE thanks is in order to Bolty, for installing and providing hosting for our last forums (and helping a lot with the forum move, too). toast

Also, thanks to our new host digix for hosting these boards and also for helping us get set up. thumbsup

I've never had to work with SQL or anything really like this, so without those two, this forum would never be in working order at this moment. :hat:

Just checking in, and a big Thank You smile to Griselda for all the work in setting up the new forums!!

Edit: Strange, but it inserted my post above the post by Griselda that I was replying too, and mine shows an earlier date/time stamp. Not sure what that was, but I thought I'd point it out if it helps troubleshooting. BTW, it is now 4:34PM, CDT, for comparison.

Well, it looks like things are stable enough now that I can at least invite you all to come and take a look. Here are the known issues:

-Passwords have not been imported correctly. You'll have to click the "forgot my password" link once to get it to mail you a password, then you can reset it to one you like.

-Signatures got munched on import. You'll have to retype your sigs.

-Avatars are all sorts of screwy at the moment. I'm working on it. If you had an avatar at the old board, I think it got imported, and is hosted here but you can't change it or set the size. DeeBye's avatar is letting me know that I've stolen his bandwidth. :P Bolty's is gigantic. As of now, it's not letting anyone else set custom avatars, but that will be coming soon.

-We'll need to fix the smilies and the buttons.

I may change the white text in the top navigation bar.

Edit- The time is also odd. I think that's a server issue.

If there are any other issues, I'd like to hear about them so that I can getthem taken care of!
