Concerning MISSION STATEMENT

Pretty well all we needed to write up a mission statement. This does not have to cover minor details, just what we want to achieve with this alliance.

Quote:The idea is to have an alliance with no actual leader, so to implement this a meta-guild is created that will sit in the alliance leader spot. It has a name independent of any particular guild, and has members from extra accounts of players in the alliance guilds. Because it's not an actual guild though, we don't want people moving all of their accounts (including one if that be the number) over to this one.

Here are some advantages of this approach as I see it;

- Makes it absolutely clear to new guilds that there is no alliance leader, and brands the alliance with a unique name. (Hopefully we think of a better name. ) It also means that no-one is tied down to the alliance, if (god forbid) RB wanted to leave at some point then it can do so without unduly disturbing others.

- Promotes more integration among the alliance by having at least some members log into a common guild chat every now and then. Also another medium for inter-guild discussion.

------------------

Dont worry about having to populate the place holder guild for vote counts. It is not my intention to have it as an actual guild, nor will it have any internal politics, nor will it be a decision making body for the alliance. This guild is not meant to be any sort of a committee. Its only duty is to push the accept or kick button when the need arises.

Although I have no objection to a rotating GL scheme. I really don't see the need fot it.

There is just no better way, within the GW in-game system, to achieve what I believe to be the ultimate alliance experience (fox did a good job explaining) - blurring the line between alliance and guilds.

The place holder guild can give the impression that everyone is in the same guild and promotes unity.

----------

Where unscrupulous Guilds are concerned, the meta guild would be so ephemeral and lacking in investment that if one guild formed an unwanted power block, then the rest could simply split away and reform. In the process they would lose nothing but the alliance name and the offending guild.

I believe I speak for everyone when I say that as an Alliance we aim to
1) be excellent to each other
2) play the "penis game" over Vent daily, or perhaps hourly
3) hold Cavalon
4) be "like Mike"

I want to know what the penis game is. And can we invite people without a penis to play? And if so, can we just do it in person? thumbsup
If you believe everything you read, better not read.

I can't believe you don't know the "penis game" haha. There's even a Wikipedia entry on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penis_game

Somewhat more formal/official sounding version of what KoP stated in the orginal post.

Cuz, y'know, I had nothing better to do.

The Alliance is a community based alliance run by peers. While there is technically a leading guild, it exists only for placeholder purposes and is made up of the secondary/unused accounts from players in the alliance. This allows the alliance to help the individual guilds maintain their independence while still being part of a larger community.

With most alliances, the life and death of that alliance depends on the leading guild; if that guild dies or decides it no longer wants to be a part of the alliance, then the entire alliance must be disbanded and the remaining guilds have to reform under a new banner. By having the leading guild exist solely as a placeholder and not as a real guild, any guild in the alliance may leave if it feels the neccessity to do so without any strings attached.

Also, this creates a more equal environment for all of the guilds involved. The placeholder guild does not get any say in alliance matters, it exists solely to invite new guilds into the alliance and, in an extreme case, remove a guild from the alliance. Otherwise, all decisions about alliance policies for general conduct, inviting new guilds and other alliance concerns are handled by the member guilds.

Please do bear in mind that, like everything else, this system is not fool-proof. If an unscrupulous person manages to become leader of the placeholder guild and decides to wreak havoc by inviting or removing guilds without going through the proper channels then obviously there's not much that can be done about that. However, because the placeholder guild does not have anything invested in it, such as the various guild hall services or even a guild hall, the other guilds can simply remake under a different name.

I don't think this needs to be in the mission statement anymore. Besides, I wouldn't mind seeing some basic services in the phantom GH tho there is no push for it. Who knows, maybe it will be a nice place for the whole alliance to hang out.

I think we can also incorporate what simple guidelines we have so far into the mission statement, ie...

Quote:This alliance is founded on enjoyment of the game and while we don't maintain a strict code of conduct we request that all parties conduct themselves in such a way as to avoid conflicts and allow fellow players their full enjoyment of the game. Play legitly and treating your peers with respect.
