Well, you know, if you make it to Day 2 in future then we can all be sure you're a wolf tongue

@Zakalwe, I don't remember thinking it was that much of a risk killing uberfish at the time, a risk yes but not a panic inducing one ... guess I'll have another look at our thread & see if that's hindsight on my part or not lol

I actually remember thinking privately that Tasunke's watching would be hard to predict. :neenernee Our chance of getting caught was pretty low anyway - Tasunke would have to watch Uberfish (1 in 5?) and we would have to win the nightkill coinflip (1 in 2).

We had to take risks every day, really, so there was not much point worrying about it. Which reminds me, thanks NobleHelium for giving us a watcher designed to only watch white wolves. lol At least Sareln took matters into his own hands and balanced it by offsetting his Jailing.
I have to run.

Oh hey, Sareln was the jailer so I can blame Sareln.

Yeah, I completely missed the PM discussion on day 1 and consequently hadn't cleared you in my mind. That and I really did want to offset myself from any every-other investigative village roles.

Also keep in mind that we could see Commodore was going down at the time. We really needed to open a wider field of suspects, and confirming two packs seemed like a good way of doing that.

The issue was that by confirming two packs, you basically made anyone on both Commodore and MNG a confirmed villager- better to let the third pack idea hang out there (or even better, find a way to make that announcement where the village would actually second guess two packs) and go after them when you could. Plus, mentally it just makes life so much easier on the villagers who don't have to filter everything through the "well, what if there are 3 packs or only 1 pack" lines of reasoning.

I don't want to be too judgmental, though, as reading the wolf threads made me realize what incredible pressure y'all were under in the two pack format. Trying to hunt the other pack just enough to kill the village is ridiculously hard, and I think in retrospect the wolves played about as well as the villagers.

zakalwe Wrote:Once that did dawn on us, I think I made a strong play by preemptively claiming a role, to build credibility for the unavoidable mass claim down the road.

I'm still baffled no one else saw that as scummy. A good claim is a good claim if almost everyone buys it, though, so well-played. smile

zakalwe Wrote:Going back to what I said earlier, this game really would have had a lot of fun psychology going for it if we had just gone with a simpler, open (i.e. known) setup. So much of the discussion revolved around first setup speculation and then role claims. But the fundamental underlying tension of having villagers hunting wolves hunting wolves hunting villagers was really fun. We should definitely try something similar in a future game, incorporating the lessons learned from this one.

Definitely! I imagine as a wolf it would be quite boring to go back to a one-pack set-up. Also, I'd really like to stress how much of an impact Lewwyn's "liar" claim had on the role claims- it basically saved the village two days.
