Nifty. bang And hey, you probably can cross The Lighthouse off your priorities list. Seriously though, this is pretty good land... you can definitely carve an empire out of this area.

Edit: actually, rival least land is 8k... is it possible that no one settled the capital on the coast?

Yeah, it'll be illuminating to see things in a turn, when Yuri and Davy pop borders. If someone did settle on the coast, it was about as sheltered a cove plant as could be had.

The Great Lighthouse was off the priorities list when Novice said "no islands", it was never more than a pipe dream really. This is really good land, the objective here is to get the basic worker techs and Fishing/Sailing out the way, and then on the bog standard Math/Currency/CoL path. Polytheism might be worth the diversion depending on timing, but this is an amazing slice of land for Darius of the HRE.

I heard a rumor from Xenu, playing with the flying camera, that this is a toroid too, which is what I get for just checking E/W for axis tilt. smoke chasing wonder gambits would be a crime against this start.

Oooh, good intel. Circumnav sure would be nice on high sea level.

How's this for rumors and speculation?

In PBEM29g I spent about 45 minutes one night trying to figure out the tile counts and then realized it completely wasn't worth the effort (or more truthfully gave up). But that wasn't before I spent a lot of time trying to draw straight lines in Paint. I think I'm giving my B effort to this one so no effort will be spent guessing tiles (don't tell Commodore). shhh It's OK though, my A effort is so bad no one will really know the difference. Besides, the map size was probably discussed in the setup thread and I've already forgotten.

I could have been wrong but it didn't seem like it at the time, and 29 turned out to be toroidal so I think my camera work was conclusive. I tested with a few SP maps where I set it to flat and cylindrical and on those I didn't see the starting position duplicate on both axis like I expected them to on a toroidal map. And if all this is old news to anyone reading, sorry about that. I'm still not great at this game nod

Comparison of my T1 shot from 29g since I have it handy and bandwidth is cheap:

Quick pic dump. Looks like someone is coastal, I think, not sure if its Yuri or Dave:

We're in the north, but not very.

Picture dump, now with more interest. Found: Wet corn, dyes, and sugar. Also, wow that's a nice city 1S of the plains hill city sign. Heck of a production site with all those hills and forests.

Borders pop, revealing more land. Looks like more to the northeast, someone might be further north on the continent. Decent backline to fill with fishing villages.

Where are the rest of you guys?

Hey, I've been busy! Been playing the PBEM29 map again, I just killed Slowcheetah and Catwalk. This game has been over forever but it's fun anyway, taking out frustration for my bad performance on the hapless AI. Foolishly Sumeria (Sian's civ) has gone hands full...if they attack me they die next. I will probably have to raze cities or I'll go over the domination limit, though.

"You guys" was actually me wondering where the other players are going to be. I quite understand how boring things are early this time.

And that does look like a yummy site 1S of the C, second city worthy with two foods and good hammers. Probably should send our scout that way next, 6 then 9.

Lol. What difficulty was that game run at again? Prince? Should be a nice change of pace from PB7 :-D

Yeah it was prince, same settings as we played in the real game. Apparently knowing how powerful the GLH would be on the map and then claiming both large offshore islands was a bit game breaking.

And yeah, compared to PB7 this game was actually fun.
