I entirely agree with this. Our early tech path should be:

Calendar -> Mining

We require calendar both for the resources and Agrarianism and Mining to unlock the Luchuirp hills and gold will more than pay for itself.

Agreed with calendar and mining first two techs. Festivals (Markets and Freaks <3) and Bronze Working (Deity barbs!) next?

Either [strike]Calendar[/strike]Cartography or Code of Laws after that makes the most sense to me. Maintenance will be absolultely insane on this map: Deity difficulty with toroidal wrap.

I'll be out most of the day today; if our turn comes up, feel free to play for me. I agree with plako's moves, and I've come around to settling in place (forests give same health boost as riverside move).

We should probably create a new thread title. Brainstorming:

Icy robot clowns FTW
Puppets and golems in the deep freeze
Auric's dance class: learning the freak and the robot

I agree with those moves. I'd advise everyone goes worker first too (in case that wasn't obvious).

I made the moves. Nothing too intresting came up. Need a bit of time to think settling options.

I think we want my capital be production oriented. Therefore moving to claim commerce tiles and exchanging plains hill start is not ideal. This leaves basically following options:
* Settle in place - Tiles: Mushrooms, 2 Flood plains, ivory, Marble, plains wine, 5 hills, has 6 riverside tiles and 6 forests
* Settle on top of marble - Tiles: Dry Corn, 2 Flood plains, plains wine, Ivory, 5 hills and has 6 riverside tiles and 8 forests
* Settle NE on plains hill - Tiles: Dry corn, Pigs, ivory, marble, 1 Flood plain, 3 riverside tiles and 9 Forests

I think we don't want to work Mushrooms while building up the early Mud Golem so I would rate Later corn better than early mushrooms. Pigs are coming too late to matter and having 1 commerce tile i.e. wines in the BFC is probably good idea so I say we should be settling on top of Marble.

Ilians see no food close by so going for commerce resources and moving NW is probably best.

Keelyn settling in place or moving SW are both good options.

The problem with marble is that there's no hill bonus for defense. I expect to see a *lot* of barbs in this game, and I'd hate to see a stack camped on one of the forested hills getting lucky kills in the city. Dwarves can attack out onto the flatland north of the hills, but would expect to lose a lot of warriors.

NE gives up a lot of commerce.

SIP can work floodplains, wine, and five hills at size 7. No extra food, but should still be good for production. Switch to farmed riverside grasslands for +1 commerce while building settlers. This is my vote.

Settler can move NE for scouting (1.5 move cost) and still settle either of the other spots.

Agreed.

I think SIP is stronger. Same health with forest bonuses. SW has better long-term production, but I think the early game will be key. City is not much more than settler/worker pump, but should work OK for that if we can tech at a decent rate.
