Revealing those coastal tiles would be good either way. If there's more seafood, one of Mist's spots might be quite good.

Ok, so what's happening?
We are at turn 43. We have 3 cities, 5 workers and city number 4 will be settled in 2t. It was a long road for the settler, since it's a fairly daring city. But it's one that will really help us.
We have teched Writing and Archery now. I went for archery because I want archers to defend the cities. They are cheap and useful. I don't think people will want to attak us if they can't take our cities. We also connected copper!
Our third city:
And the spot which will be our fourth city:
It's the one near gold and rice. The coastal spot revealed no seafood besides the clam, so I went for the gold + rice. We'll have 2 warriors protecting it from the start and the city will open up with an archer build, I think. We'll have a worker ready to start improving the rice when the city is settled with another one 1t late.
I think this is a very good investment. We get a pretty strong city (the gold will make up for the presumably high maintenance), a foothold in the contested area with Yuris and we claim quite a bit of land. Yuris power is still very low, so I'm not worried.
---
This was the way I went with the granary build thing:
We got the granary and quite a bit of overflow after growth. Probably not optimal, but "good enough" is good enough for me.
---
Cities:
First Touch:
(This was the micro while Pace was using the fp farm) - Capital recently got a free Hindu spread!
Pace:
Long Shots:
I was thinking of going Monument -> Axe after copper -> Finish monument. But seeing that I'm not hardpressed into getting defenses and considering that I have archery now, I think I'll finish the monument first.
---
Demographics (not from last turn):
---
It'll be fun to see if my not-that-whipped empire can compete with the whip-it-good guys. I think I'll whip the capital for a settler soon, though I'm not sure. Maybe I'll just chop a forest for it. I think Pace will make a settler for the horse site and capital will make one for the marble site.
---
Questions:
a) What do you think is best for the marble site: the place where the X currently is in the picture above or the hill 1W for extra defense?
b) Can I be competitive without whipping as much as the others?

Thanks, mackoti. I'm really insecure about what I do in MP civ, since I don't have much experience. I just have a feeling that whipping wouldn't be so profitable here.
Anyway, we revolted to slavery this turn. I just finished building two workers and there was a settler in movement, so it seemed like a good moment to do so. I think of Slavery more as an emergency survival tool here, so it's good to have it ready for use.
The capital will finsih the granary in 2 turns, while growing to 10/20 on the food box (and working only improved tiles). nice, huh?
The second city will build a 3 turns settler for the horse site. We have a fat overflow from the worker build (33 hammers with overflow + production, not counting IMP bonus and food bonus - settler is 65), so why waste it? The site will borrow cows to build a work boat. The second city can borrow the fp farm from the capital and it'll also have a cottage to work. Seems like a good move.
After that, capital will make settler 6 for the oasis site.

Me, I expect to have somewhere between 7-9 whips by T60 in PBEM35. I've fallen in love with whipping on Quick speed. And this is without EXP.
But yeah, your land doesn't call for whips. You do NOT whip off a plains cow. You whip off cottages, farms, and plains mines.
Also Mack, I thought your strategy in PBEM29 was to keep your population low and your infrastructure high, or did you cash most of your whips late?

Yep, after landing hanging gardens.

A good soccerplayer gotta have a good first touch ability:
He also must have a good pace:
But also Composure and Long Shots:

The city of Long Shots seems to be a good place to build a wonder. I should probably pick one and focus. The city has a decent amount of forests and hammer resources. I think Oracle is possible, but I won't prioritize it. I want to get Sailing and Masonry before thinking things further. Probably Maths afterwards. If Oracle is still avaiable after Masonry, we could try it, since we need priesthood for Monarchy anyway, right?

I'd keep those chops either for Hanging Gardens, Great Library or MoM. I expect Yuri will cash Oracle soon and only other wonder we might want on this terrain is Colosus. Forges would be +1happy with gold btw, should we head that time sometime soonish? We'll need it for 'phracts eventually.

Well, Yuris just got the Oracle, so that settles things, right?
Do you think Hanging Gardens is worth it? We have to keep in mind that:
1. We have no stone.
2. We have Imperialistic, so those hammers would be 50% more profitable on settlers.
3. We have marble to make other wonders cheaper.
I think going for MoM and GL is better than HG.

By the way, Mist, do you think we should settle the Horse site with the settler from Pace or do you prefer to get the Oasis site near composure? I think we have to take advantage of the fact that Yuris slowed down his expansion to get the Oracle by building a lot of settlers.
The big advantage of the Horse site is that we need only 1t to get it settled and it starts with productive tiles from the beggining. I think we could go for the Oasis site with the next settler from our capital, rather than the one from Pace.
