RB Demogame IT and Tech Issues Thread

This is the IT and Tech Issues Thread for the first internal Realms Beyond Democracy Game. The planning thread can be found here.

The game is now live. If this is your first time connecting please read this entire post carefully. Text in Red will be of interest to veterans.

Access the game via DirectIP connection to sunrise089.dyndns.org:2060. No password is needed (nor will one permit a successful connection) when connecting to the game. Make 100% sure there are no spaces in the field or you'll get an error. Spaces love to crop up unexpectedly, so please double-check this before posting that you can't connect.

The first time a team logs into the game it will be asked to set and confirm a password. This is non-trivial to change, so please make sure you know what it is, can remember it, etc.

In-game you can play as normal. This game is played via sequential turns (only initially?). Under simultaneous turns and possible sequential (YMMV) you can queue unit actions and builds like normal, even after you end turn. I get asked almost every game, so I'll note you press TAB to chat in-game. When you're done playing please log out via Exit to Main Menu, not Exit to Desktop (it creates connectivity/lag issues).

I have set a 24 hour timer per team for the first turn. In the future the timer will be tweaked according to the wishes of the players and game admin.

This game uses Civstats to track the turns and other info. This game is here. If you want to register via Civstats and claim your civ the password for each civ is "sirian."

From now on, please let me know if you have any technical concerns in this thread. I can be reached infrequently via forum PM, and easily via email at sunrise089 at gmail dot com and IM at sunrise089 on either AIM or GChat.

Civstats can't do unrestricted leaders.

Gaspar is right, civstats doesn't support many of the BtS settings. Long ago I made the choice to select proper civs above proper leaders. That's because Civstats shows the civ colors and I figured that was a more intuitive identifier than the leader name.

Also, as I've not followed the setup for this game closely, I'd be grateful for both a full list of rules to add to this thread as well as info on what the turn timer should be going forward.

Civstats is glitched with sequential turns. Only the first and last team in the order will show up as ending turn on civ stats.

That means we're going to need to have teams 2, 3, and 4 post in here when they have ended turn.

(Yeah, it's a pain, but the alternative is to have tons of missed turns/delays which is worse, unless someone has some other clever idea regarding tracking)

It never does, except for the first player. One of the bugs about Civstats, it doesn't register turns ended correctly for sequential turn games. (It assumes all games have simultaneous turns, so with sequential turns it shows all players as having ended their turn after the first player does.)

Was that true for PB6? Weird I can't remember now but I thought we saw each civ end turn.
