Total land tiles: 2868

Divide by nine, approx land tiles per player: 318

Assuming few to no uninhabited islands (was that specified?), that's one heck of a lot of land per player. Significantly more land per player than PB4, and twice the land per player in PB7. For an exact comparison:

PB4 - 2435 tiles between 10 players (~243 each on average)
PB7 - 2967 tiles between 18 players (~164 each on average)

Man, this is really going to be a builder's game. The Industrious trait would have been amazing... but oh well. tongue

Early cottages will definitely be the right move. Non-Financial leaders will be severely set back compared to Financial leaders. Early rushes will be highly unlikely to succeed. Our War Chariots will probably only see barbs, but that's still good.

waterbat Wrote:i just downloaded the mod to see if it would work. It doesn't. Here's my procedure:

Run Civ4 BTS.
Select Advanced -> Load a Mod
Select the WebMod1_0

then Direct IP connection to address above.
I get the leader select screen.
I select Realms Beyond and enter the password.
Game transfers data to disk
Game crashes. it goes too fast to read any errors that popped up (there may be one).

EDIT. Fixed it.
The WebMod01 folder must not exist in the MyGames/BtS/MODS folder.

You guys aren't getting into the game because you haven't pre-loaded the mod. Here are the instructions for logging into the game.

First, you will need to download the Spanish Apolyton mod: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6355677/WebMod1_0.rar

Next, you must put the folder in the correct place on your computer. On a Windows setup, this is as follows:

C: / Program Files / Firaxis Games / Civ4 / Beyond the Sword / Mods

This mod apparently doesn't run on Macs, so I guess those folks are just out of luck. Sorry.

When starting up Civ4, you must select the Custom option on the main menu, followed by Load a Mod:

Attempting to log into a Multiplayer game in the normal way will cause a crash, since you aren't using the mod's assets. From the above menu, select the Spanish mod, which is named WebMod1_0:

This will reboot Civ4 with the mod's assets in place. Now you can log into the Pitboss via the standard route, which is Multiplayer followed by Direct IP Connection:

Notice how the mod displays in the corner. If you aren't seeing this, then the game will not load. On the Direct IP screen, enter the login name (Realms Beyond for our team) and this IP number: 178.17.156.11

I think it would be nice if we all used the same Realms Beyond tag to log in, so that other teams have no idea which of us are playing the turn and logging into the game. Not terribly important, of course. Whatever you have typed in the top box is what will show up as our name when logging into the game. Leave the password box in the bottom corner blank.

On the Civ select screen, click on Pacal. We're #1 on this listing of civs, right where we belong. thumbsup You will have to enter our team password, which is as follows: MenOfDenile

After that, you are in the game live! Everyone should always feel free to log in and look at what's going on, but please do not move units or rearrange tiles without permission. Note that when war is declared, there may be some weird rules about logging in. Be aware of this, and err on the side of caution.

I will post this at the top of our turn tracking thread for easy reference.

Aye Industrious would have been good, almost as good as expansive or financial in a builder orientated game :neenernee

This is good information though, thank you. I vote we Rapidly EXpand as much as possible. Course, I vote that every game.

I went ahead and played for us. No sense in waiting around.

Turn 0 - 4000BC

The initial turns have all been simmed out, making this a breeze. I've already made these exact moves a dozen times testing stuff. Feels a little strange to be doing them for real. Move settler 1N, found on bananas. Hunting research selected. Warrior moves NW in the expectation of moving NE next turn onto hill.

Nothing too significant there. Jungle tile means we are near the equator if this is a standard map script, which it likely isn't.

Game settings. Nothing unexpected.

Here is the F8 screen. No one else has settled yet. This map has a HUGE amount of land tiles on it. We have an excellent leader and civ for these conditions - we should be able to play a pure macro game of teching and expansion with great success.

The meaningless Demographics with no one settled yet.

Now we wait for 3 days while all the teams that didn't do any planning during the previous weeks of waiting figure out what they're going to do. lol

OK, out of turn-report mode. Kyan is correct: a gigantic map like this couldn't be much better for Expansive. I'm not sure why we would want Industrious (the "tall civ" trait) over Expansive (the "wide civ" trait) under these circumstances. Our own Fin/Exp along with Fin/Cre are both going to be godly here. The fact that no one picked Suryavarman's Cre/Exp on this map is baffling. Good for us though.

I think this is going to be one of the purest macro games we've seen. It might be worth going back and reading up on some of those Huge / Always Peace PBEM games that were played here. Obviously it's not exactly the same thing, but the same general lesson applies. We should rush to Currency ASAP and then push growth as hard as we possibly can with Wealth builds. Played correctly, we can probably double the size of many of these teams with ease, while also building a tech advantage. Then it's up to the diplo team to keep us from getting dogpiled. Uh, good luck with that? I have full confidence in you! [Image: wink.gif]

To do right now:

* Figure out a city naming scheme

* Set up C&D Excel stuff. We want to be tracking score, population, power, and techs at a minimum. Who is going to be in charge of this effort? I don't really have to time to do that myself. Feel free to use my old Excel charts for a model if desired: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19563179/RPBP4.xls

* Learn how Spanish Mod website works. More info can always be exploited to our advantage.

I will revive the existing C&D thread. Thanks for the Excel table, Sullla.
The next turns should be pretty straight forward.

Thanks for the explanation and first turn report Sulla. smile

I think the name Junta has been suggested for the capital of our little banana republic. Although that might send a wrong signal to other teams (unlikely, but still). The main question would be if we want to commit to some kind of naming scheme, and if so, what?

I did pre-load the mod - performed the exact scenario you described. Game completely crashes after choosing the leader and entering our civ's password.
