Adventure 24 - Kylearan

Hi,

I haven't had the time to write a proper report  , but here's my result:

Stonehenge 2200BC
Great Wall 1720BC
Pyramids 1160BC
Oracle 950BC
Temple of Artemis 725BC
Great Lighthouse 625BC
Hanging Gardens 100BC
Mausoleum of Mausollos (rushed) 100AD
Statue of Zeus 175AD
Chichen Itza 400AD
Great Library 475AD
Parthenon 520AD
Apostolic Palace 620AD
Shwedagon Paya 720AD
Hagia Sophia 740AD
Colossus 900AD
Sistine Chapel 920AD
Angkor Wat (rushed) 920AD
Notre Dame 1120AD
University of Sangkore 1210AD
Versailles (rushed) 1220AD
Spiral Minaret 1240AD
Taj Mahal 1390AD
Statue of Liberty 1550AD
Kremlin 1645AD
Broadway 1700AD
Pentagon 1795AD
Cristo Redentor 1804AD
Rock'n Roll 1812AD
The Eiffel Tower 1820AD
U.N. 1822AD
Hollywood 1826AD
Three Gorges Dam 1878AD
Space Elevator 1908AD

That's all wonders in the game. [Image: biggrin.gif]

I had a bit of luck with generating several engineers, but I think only Angkor Wat was in danger of falling to the AI, so it didn't really make that big a difference.

I guess I could manage to write a more detailed report in a couple of days if anyone is really interested.

Well done! I had a feeling you might grab them all...

If you have time, then I'd be interested in why Angkor Wat was the trickiest wonder for you.

Well so much for thinking 30 was a good score. frown

Congrats on what I didn't think was possible with a full sweep.

Well done...if you don't post a report someday I will be very   !

Nicely done. I suspected as much when I read your "game complete" post in the info thread.

Your reports are always entertaining and insightful, so if you find time to write a full one, it will be welcome.

But even if you can't write a full report, I'd like to know more about your thought processes on a few issues. Specifically:

How quickly and how far did you expand? A map from about 1500AD or so would probably provide most of that answer.

How did you handle religions: found your own, adopt and AI's, or remain neutral for the most part?

How did you handle tech trading? Did you trade techs freely once you had built the wonders, or did you try to limit the AI's tech pace by minimizing trading?

Were there any wonders you thought you had a serious chance of losing? If so, why: because the AI had the tech for a long time, any oversights on your part, any Great Engineers born to the AI before the late game?

What role did aggression play in your game? Did the AIs make any progress against each other? Were you involved in any wars?

Did you gain any territory from barbs or from the AI by war or culture?

But most of all, congratulations on fine play!

Hi,

I will! Now that I've read several other reports for this event, all well worth the read, I'd feel bad not providing one. smile

Quite a few issues indeed. lol I'd better answer those now that discussion about the event is still going on instead of when I'll find the time to write my report...

Quote:How quickly and how far did you expand? A map from about 1500AD or so would probably provide most of that answer.
I cannot take a screenshot right now (my computer is running Linux at the moment and will be doing so for the next days, running some time-intensive simulations), but in the east my empire ended at the coastal floodplains city most people had. My expansion was not very good, but sufficient for building the wonders.

Quote:How did you handle religions: found your own, adopt and AI's, or remain neutral for the most part?
I founded Confucianism via the Oracle, and Christianity (and Islam, I think) via great prophets - but all not for the religions per se, only because I wanted to build the wonders unlocked by the techs. Like in most of my games, I preferred not to adopt any religion, except for a short period building the Apostolic Palace. I wanted to stay out of wars, and find no state religion the best way to achieve this most of the time.

Quote:How did you handle tech trading? Did you trade techs freely once you had built the wonders, or did you try to limit the AI's tech pace by minimizing trading?
Once the respective wonders were built, I traded away my techs freely, in part to catch up on neglected branches of the tree, and in part to get money to fuel further research. I look at the tech screen almost every turn, to catch that one turn when an AI suddenly has hundreds of gold available...

Quote:Were there any wonders you thought you had a serious chance of losing? If so, why: because the AI had the tech for a long time, any oversights on your part, any Great Engineers born to the AI before the late game?
The Great Lighthouse, for obvious reasons (In fact, I whipped it for an ungodly amount of population only to save 3 turns or so...).

The Mausoleum of Mausollos, because the AIs had Calendar for 10+ turns before I had it. (Not Angkor Wat, as I had written in my original post; I mixed up these two wonders)

The University of Sangkore, as Mansa got Paper before me. But being industrious and having such a strong capital, I guess it was never really in danger.

I almost forgot about the Apostolic Palace, as it never showed up in my build queues as I was in no state religion. smoke

Quote:What role did aggression play in your game? Did the AIs make any progress against each other? Were you involved in any wars?
I successfully managed to stay out of all wars during the whole game, but the AIs were fighting each other like mad. I have never seen so many Great Generals generated before! Way over a dozen at least, really insane. I have to admit I didn't really pay attention how successful the AI wars were; no AI died, though.

Quote:Did you gain any territory from barbs or from the AI by war or culture?
Yup: I captured the flood plains city from the barbs (would have founded a city on my own there next otherwise), and two AI cities later flipped to me, as that floodplains city built quite a few wonders during the game.

This is actually one of those "little" issues that put me on the fence about information-providing mods. On the one hand, an approved mod that provided that level of information would certainly change the average gameplay because more people would likely take advantage of these opportunities. But on the other hand, the lack of such a mod means that only the people willing to take the time and make this level of micro-management effort will take advantage of such inconvenient-to-find bits of information.

Same with me! I expected it to be dimmed-out in the build queue--"Requires a state religion"--not simply absent.

Thanks for the timely responses. smile

You can only build the AP if you're in a state religion?

Ah, I didn't know that either. Lesson of the day learnt.

Well done on completing all the wonders Kylearan. I wasn't sure if it would be possible. I knew it got done in a succession game in vanilla prince. At monarch and with all the new early wonders I was skeptical. But well done! I will eagerly await your report.
