Roles / design notes
Quote:WOLVES
You are Lewwyn's Nose, Werewolf
You used to be Lewwyn's nose until you were detached in a mad scientist experiment. Now you're an independent nose by day and a werewolf by night.
Abilities:
Sniff - You are able to tell if someone smells weird because they have been in contact with another person that night. You will be told how many people were in contact with them during the night (excluding yourself.) If you have sniffed one of their contacts before, you'll recognize the scent and be told their identity. IE, if you recognize Y and sniff X, you will be told - "X was in contact with N people including Y."
Your teammates are Molach, Injera and Novice. You may communicate with them in the following quicktopic: http://www.quicktopic.com/47/H/ahiNfcGW48EM9. You win when your faction is the only one remaining alive or nothing can prevent this.
(Experimental detection role. Seems decent to me on paper.)
You are a Werewolf 1-Shot Keyword Vigilante
You're a werewolf that watched the film "300" too many times and have become obsessed. You have dedicated your life to re-enacting scenes from the movie.
Abilities:
Keyword Vigilante - If another player posts the word "madness" (not in quotes), you may reply to their post with "THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAAA". You will attempt to kill target player. Your reply post must be the first post you make after their offending post and must be within the same day/night phase. This ability only works once because people will know better than to stand within reach of you next time.
Post restrictions:
Keyword - You can't post the word "madness" yourself. If you do, you lose your ability.
Your teammates are Slowcheetah, Injera and Novice. You may communicate with them in the following quicktopic: http://www.quicktopic.com/47/H/ahiNfcGW48EM9. You win when your faction is the only one remaining alive or nothing can prevent this.
(The challenge with this one is to actually use it without appearing scummy...)
You are an Impatient Werewolf
You're in a rush and the days are always far too long. Discussion is boring! Someone needs to die now!
Abilities:
Hurry - The following day runs under a threshold lynch rule: any player who has more than half the maximum number of votes at any time during the day will be immediately lynched, ending the day. This is a one-shot night ability.
Your teammates are Molach, Slowcheetah and Novice. You may communicate with them in the following quicktopic: http://www.quicktopic.com/47/H/ahiNfcGW48EM9. You win when your faction is the only one remaining alive or nothing can prevent this.
(A miscellaneous ability that can be used to act pro-town if an obvious lynch seems to be coming up.)
You are a Werewolf Sympathizer
You're a human but never got along with your fellow villagers. So, you told the werewolves the location of the village and made a deal with them to help them eat everyone else in the village so you could take their stuff.
Although you are human, you count as a wolf for the purposes of win conditions and win with the wolves.
Your teammates are Molach, Injera and Slowcheetah. You may communicate with them in the following quicktopic: http://www.quicktopic.com/47/H/ahiNfcGW48EM9. You win when your faction is the only one remaining alive or nothing can prevent this.
(design notes: this is an anti-metagaming role that would normally be a vanilla wolf slot - there isn't actually a seer in this game.)
VILLAGE
You are Romeo
You're a romantic. Always have been. Werewolves may have invaded the village but there's always a time for love!
Abilities:
Fates Entwined - This is a one-shot night ability. You may choose another player as your lover for the rest of the game. You will be able to communicate with them privately in a quicktopic. If one of you dies, the other will commit suicide. Your lover will be aware of this.
You may also commit suicide at any time after choosing a lover. This will still cause your lover to commit suicide too. This is a secret ability and your lover won't be aware of this.
You win with the village.
(this role is designed to encourage Romeo to try to fall in love with a member of the enemy faction)
You are the Man without a Nose
Your nose has been removed due to a mad scientist experiment. You'd quite like it back. If you manage to find your nose you will reattach it and gain an ability.
Abilities:
Have You Seen My Nose? - This is a night action. You may visit someone to search for your nose.
You win with the village.
(gains control of the Sniff ability; the nose can still turn into a werewolf to kill the host)
(design notes: This role isn't a very strong one because wolves will probably kill the host immediately, but serves to generate some night-action noise for the Sniff and Watch abilities)
You are the Jailkeeper
There are clearly too many weird people in this game. It's your job to keep them in line.
Abilities:
Arrest - This is a night action. You will lock target player in the village jail for the night. Any other night actions, including kills, performed on or by them will fail.
You win with the village.
(need at least one or two sane roles)
You are a Watcher
There are clearly too many weird people in this game. However, you find spying on them amusing. Now that the village has been invaded by werewolves, your hobby might even be useful.
Abilities:
Watch - This is a night action. You will be informed of who visited your target player. This ability can be used 3 times.
You win with the village.
(a strong detective type role, balanced by some noise-generating night actions)
You are t3h 1337 h4x0r
j00 r 4 l33t h4x0rzzz!11111!!! t3h w0lfx0rz r sUx n00bz 4nd y40u w1ll pwnz0r t3hm w1t4 yu0r 1337 k0mput3r sk1llz!!!!11111!!
You have the following one shot abilities:
Identity Theft - You will hijack target player's vote by PMing the GM. At the end of the day, their vote will be changed to whichever target you decide when you use the ability. Ability will fail if used in a situation where a mislynch would result in a wolf win.
Phishing - You will redirect target player's action used on the same night (if any) to a target of your choice.
Hack Forum - At the end of the night the usual GM flavour text will be replaced by text of your choice. Deaths will still be announced.
You have the following post restrictions:
1337 - You can't use the vowels A, E, I and O, you may substitute them with numbers/symbols.
You win with the village.
(Annoying post restriction with some fun abilities.)
You are a Compulsive Post Restrictor
You just like making people behave strangely.
Ability:
You have the following one-shot post restrictions which you can apply to another player. You have to use one each night if possible. You can't use more than one a night. Post restrictions last for the following day/night cycle.
Catchphrase - Player must begin every post with a sentence of your choice (up to 10 words)
Chicken Chicken Chicken - Apart from votes, player may only use the word "chicken"
Censor - Pick three words. Player isn't allowed to use them
Film Fanatic - Every post must contain a quote from a film of player's choice
Gaming Historian - Every post must contain a reference to another game of player's choice
Miss Manners - Player must post in a polite fashion, including: using "please" when asking another player to do anything, saying "thank you" when they comply, not insulting other players
Sheep - Player may only post to agree with something someone else has said.
You Talk Too Much - Player is limited to 20 words per post and isn't allowed to post twice in succession.
You win with the village.
(Post restrictions stack. Players can always vote. Sheep is here as a counterpoint to the Contrarian, and Catchphrase/Censor can interact with the Keyword Vigilante.)
You are a Matchmaker
You've always been good at setting up liaisons. You have a nice private room for this purpose with a sneakily concealed hole in the wall.
Ability:
Matchmake - You may match up any two other players who will be given a quicktopic to privately communicate in. You will be allowed to spy on them by reading the quicktopic, but not post in it yourself.
You win with the village.
(Experimental role - can you determine a player's alignment by spying on a supposedly private conversation? Obviously relies on the quicktopic system.)
You are a Phoenix
You're a flaming bird which automatically makes you cooler than the rest of the village. If you die you'll be reborn, but it takes a long time to accumulate enough energy to perform this feat so you still need to be careful.
Ability:
Rebirth - The first time you die your alignment will not be revealed. You may not read the lurker thread. You will come back to life exactly one day and one night after you died, assuming the game hasn't ended in the meantime.
You win with the village.
(This is a pretty strong self-protection role, as if nightkilled it's fairly obvious town when it revives, and if mislynched it has a day for heat to dissipate.)
You are an Incompetent Vigilante
You're a hunter who just settled down in the village. You're pissed that conflict has found its way to your new home and are ready to take the fight to the scum responsible! Unfortunately, you're not really up to date with werewolf fighting techniques...
Ability:
Kill - You attempt to kill target player. Because you don't have any silver weapons, your ability will fail if target player is a werewolf.
You win with the village.
(this role isn't quite as useless as it seems - it allows the village to policy-kill lurkers/trolls or reduce even to odd numbers in endgame. Also, the Sympathizer can actually be killed by this role.)
You are a Contrarian
You've never really been one to follow the herd and always have original opinions. Of course, that's because everyone else is wrong.
Post restriction:
All your posts must include a quote from another player and disagree with it.
You win with the village.
(fun PR)
You are a Vegetarian Werewolf
You are cursed with lycanthropy but can't stand the taste of meat. Your vegetarianism is regarded as a foul perversion of nature by your fellow werewolves and they will kill you on sight. You've been living peacefully in the village for a while, but now that your fellow wolves have come to the town you'll have to stop them if you want to survive.
Although you are a werewolf, you count as part of the village for win conditions and win with the village.
(Counterpart to the wolves' sympathizer)
You are an Astrologer
You have always believed the stars hold the secrets to mankind's destiny. Perhaps your skills will be of use now that werewolves have invaded the village.
Ability:
Horoscope - You will read the stars to get information about a player of your choice. The results aren't guaranteed to be accurate, useful, or indeed relevant. This is a night action.
You win with the village.
(Counts as a visit. Actually the results are randomly taken off a predetermined list just like real astrology, but might be a talking point.)

Epic game. Congrats to the wolves. I think Novice deserved this after rolling wolf for the third time in a row.
If you know what I mean.

haha! on the drive today i was thinking that Molach was a human that won with the wolves - counterpoint to bigger I was going to post about it, but
a) i had to find something to disagree with first
b) it seemed irrelevant and i didnt want to distract from the novice lynch i was pushing
c) doing so at 82 mph is pretty dumb - well stupid stupider than the whole internet
too bad i was wrong and also didnt know the word Sympathizer

Doh, I did want the Molach lynch!
Well done Novice and the other wolves, was double guessing myself towards the end of the day, but I had to group with somebody and went with Novice.
As you can see I lied about my power role, I was the Pheonix

Can't believe this is coming from me, perhaps fitting in a way, but it might be good to introduce even more anti-lurker measures in the game, make it a less attractive retreat option. Targetted against wolf lurkers too. Incompetent vigilante was a start, though I didn't see that use until after uberfish's comment on roles. Vigi-kill is just half a mislynch, in terms of villagers removed so much better to use these on lurkers. At least mid-game when it's still unclear how many mislynches one has.
For me, the penultimate day I thought I was gonna hang and novice cruise to victory, I said as little as possible, few posts, and just talked about myself and my role ("Okay enough about me. Lets talk about you. What do YOU think about me?") so I wouldn't leave behind incriminating evi-dense after lynch.

I'm guessing I can stop refreshing and hoping for this to be edited into a story?
