What the heck is this? Planetfall Lurker thread

spellman Wrote:I was discussing the mod with Sareln and he noted that because of how the bulbing series works (and the exponential beaker costs) going GP to bulb the high level tech while slow researching the low/middle ones is totally valid. And now proven in MP.

Come to think of it, this is basically what I did in my Miriam planet-hugging game. Using my endless stream of Transcends to bulb Photus, Personality, and Secrets of Alpha Centauri while researching other techs.

Really does seem like a powerful strategy for all parts of the tech tree if set up properly.

Despite Nic's aspersions, I did actually know that farms & mines double-counted. But the point wasn't to play nice with planet. The point was to have the improvements positioned to share so I could work everything all the time off of one former...

Amusing to see how different priorities create different expectations of "how" to play.

Yeah, I nearly pointed that out to him, but decided not to.

Plus, I suspect that Edens grant happiness to both cities if positioned in both BFC's. And can grow up faster if you trade them between cities when you need to go hammer-heavy in one.

Amazing what's possible when you abandon any pretense of making nice with Planet!

Actually, Edens don't provide happyness afaik.

Progression is Farm (+1 F), Outpost (+1 food), Settlement (+1 Happy in all bases that have the Settlement in their BFC), Eden (+1 food)

All benefits are cumulative.

I'm being pedantic.

Technically, the way the game sees it, there is no such thing as a cumulative improvement. The tile only has a settlement or an Eden on it. It does not have an Eden stacked on top of a settlement. Therefore, the Eden does in fact provide +3 food when irrigated and +1 happy in nearby bases.

The settlement provides +2 food when irrigated and +1 happy in nearby bases.

wink

I know it was said on the first page of the lurker thread but "What the heck is this? An Alpha Centauri PBEM?!?!" Incredible. Was there an update recently? (and I'm using recently in a very relative way considering how long the mod has been out).

I didn't get a chance to ever play the original AC and I've fooled around only slightly with the Planetfall mod but I'm excited and keen to see some masters (or at least way better players than me) handle this mod. Super thumbs up!

I believe though that Yang is pretty terrible at offensive warfare because of war weariness. There are no civics to reduce it and first buildings come with 5k-tier techs.

OK, problem solved.
