So basically it looks like they're shining up the previous iteration and throwing in a few handfuls of maps and history that CKII had, as due to fan demand. And since the map looks a lot similar that means that at some point carrying over from CKII directly into EUIV could be possible.

"The world is now your playground: Players can enjoy over 300 years of gameplay in a lush topographic map in full 3D"
I hope there's more than that! That would be dissappointing. Eu3 with expansions Runs from 1399 to 1821, and even the vanilla version covered 400-450 years, I beleive.
Graphics aren't too important to me, but from the pictures (haven't watched video yet) I like the look of EU3 better .

I'll be interested to see what they come out with, based on what they've learned from the past 5 years or so.

I agree about the timeline, it is sad to see it possibly being shorter. After all the fun I've had in EUIII though (and hope to have in CKII when I finally catch it on sale ), I'm holding out high hopes for it.
Here's an interview done today with some of the devs for EUIV

I've been playing a Naples game the past month or so (well I started as Naples, then formed Italy, then formed the HRE). I've used a buncha somewhat gamey stuff (forming the HRE through the resolutions is too easy and gets you a large track of land, I also annexed Castille and Brittany with a personal union and patience, and now have England, sweden, and Russia locked in a personal union which means at somepoint in the future I will inherit their lands). Its taken me 280 years and I have all of Europe now (except the baeleres, which Portugal - Africa based, still controls), all of N/S America, south africa, a small patch of southern india, and australia/NZ. That's if you include the personal unions anyway.
my point? Even with the arguably gamey techniques I've played almost 300 years and still have all of asia, japan, and 80-90% of Africa to conquer if I want world conquest. Plus I'm not even playing the hardest difficulty (default/medium). If it is possible I'll need all 422 years, heh. (not really sure it will be, asia is huge).
So world conquest will surely not be possible in 300 years.

I think part of the counter argument to that though is that, especially given some of what has happened in history, utter complete world conquest isn't supposed to be possible, or at least anywhere near easy to achieve. I do think that the longer amount of game time that they decide to include, the better it will be, I just don't think that's the best example of why since that's on the extreme ahistorical side.
Plus, for EU3 there's an AAR of someone playing Iriquios on very hard, and after waiting the 100 years or so at the start before he could even contact Europe, he ended the game with only 10 provinces not under his control. So is it possible? I think so, if you power-game enough.

eh, ok. Do you have a link to that?
and yes, I dont mind that. I just play HOI when i want world conquest - much, much easier .

Keep in mind this dude must have probably logged hundreds of hours to get the world to look like this as Iroquois, so don't get feeling all down on yourself.
Plus, consider if maybe they're limiting the timeline to fit right between CKII and whichever game is after EU, HOI I think? heck, if they were doing that so they could standardize savegames to flow between all three titles I don't care if it's a lot shorter.

hearts of iron (they've made hearts of iron 3) doesnt start until 1936.. 1, 2, 3, are the same game, just reiteration, just like EU will be the same game (basically) as EU3
