The trip to Chiron, the only inhabitable planet in Alpha Centauri, had not gone as planned. It was meant to be a fresh new start for humanity. After 6000 years of strife and warfare, all members of the secret âNAP of evilâ secret society had finally been routed out and killed. Unfortunately, the earth was ravaged by nuclear weapons and global warming and was no longer hospitable to human life; a new home was needed. A spaceship was launched to Alpha Centauri, containing people from a large cross-section of the civilized world, led by the brave captain Garland, hero in the final campaign against the evil Nappies. Those left behind on Earth knew their end was near, but were encouraged that humanity would endure on a distant planet.
The trouble began once the ship approached Chironâs atmosphere. There was much debate as to how the new colony should be governed, and quickly 7 different factions were divergent ideologies developed. There was gunfire in the hull, and an explosion. When the smoke cleared, Captain Garland had been brutally murdered, and the self-destruct sequence activated. In the chaos there was little time to find the culprit â 7 escape pods were boarded with members of each faction and deployed to planet.
Bigger, beloved Captain Garland was murdered on day 0.
The first 100 years on Planet were harsh and scary. The factions were scattered to different corners of the planet, and lost contact with each other for many decades. In the year 2130, two foreign spacecrafts were seen engaged in Planetâs atmosphere, eventually crash landing on the earth. The mysterious invaders proved to be powerful foes, far advanced in technology, but luckily they seemed more interested in destroying one another than in fighting humanity. In 2160, Dierdre built the Empath Guild, and within years all faction leaders were able to establish contact with each other. Early efforts to reunite failed, however, and the splintering got worse as 5 new factions sprouted up â the Drone faction, which refused to accept the genejack enhancements Yang was implementing in his workforce, the Planet Cult, even more extreme in their Planet worship than Dierdre could accept, the Pirates, who took the Spartanâs principles and applied them to the sea, the Consciousness, a group University scientists so devoted to technology they were willing to give up half their humanity, and the Data Angels, a group of heretical hackers expelled by Miriam.
Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you.
Planet year 2200:
After years of attempting, Brother Lal finally convinced the other faction leaders to hold a Planetary Council where their differences could be addressed and reconciliation could be attempted. All faction leaders would attend; several famous talents were invited as well, and some common citizens. At Domaiâs insistence (and the annoyance of everyone else) the drones were allowed to send representatives as well.
The council began with the usual tension. Lady Dierdre claimed the xenofungus had started talking to her, but this only got her laughed at. Ceo Morgan called her a tree hugger. Zakarov claimed that Miriam was torturing innocent scientists within her faction, while Miriam responded that God would punish him for his disbelief. The more common folk told stories of their families in outer colonies being attacked by vicious mind worms. A fight between Domai and Yang was close to breaking out when a loud banging was heard throughout the council. Brother Lal was standing on the table.
âMembers of the Council, I have pressing news, much more important than your petty squabbles. I must inform you: There are NAPâs on Planet. They are even in this very room.â
âYou are mad, Lal,â shouted Colonel Santiago. âWe killed those bastards off back on earth.â Several voices rang up in agreement.
âListen!â Lal said in a commanding tone. âAs you may know, I was the last to talk to Captain Garland before his death. When I reached him he was a bloody thing, hanging onto life. My brave captain, I said to him, who did this to you. His only response was âthe Nappies.â A chill ran down my spine and I repepeated, âwho hurt you sir?â But he was dead and would say no more.
Like you I was convinced we left the evil NAPs on Earth, and I wrote off his last words as the confusion of a dying man. But several months ago some of my terraformers stumbled upon a data probe that survived from the wreckage of the Starship Unity. It contained an interesting piece of data, a correspondence between two members of the evil NAPs. I believe that Captain Garland found this letter, and that lead to his death. I say to you members of this council: we cannot repeat the mistakes of Earth, we must discover the identity of the evil NAPs, and quick!â
Lal passed around the letter and as each person read it a gasp or a curse escaped their lips. When the letter completed its rounds, a heavy silence filled the room.
Captain Garland is onto us. NAP ideals must not die with earth, we must take action immediately. I will sabotage the reactor a 0800 tomorrow morning; in the resulting chaos I need you to eliminate Garland. Once on the surface of Chiron we can regroup and continue with the plan.
-Supreme Leader
Finally, the silence was broken.
âEvery surviving member of the Unity is in this room. The Napâs must be among us,â announced Lal.
âWell, Iâm not a Nappie.â
âIâm obviously innocent here.â
âOh come now, thatâs what you want us to think, you clearly are guilty!â
âIâm not convinced Lal is innocent, a clever NAP would call this conference, to get us all in one place!â
âSTOP!â shouted Lal. âThere appears to be only one way to solve this.â
âWhatâs that?â
âWe vote.â Lal responded. A dark cloud revealed itself, and a shadow fell on the forest visible through the council windows.

1. Fixed length 48 hour days. Nights are 24 hours. Deadline for both is 2200 GMT.
2. During the day each player may cast one vote for someone to be lynched.
3. Votes must be posted in red or they will not count.
4. The player with most lynch votes at the end of the day is lynched and eliminated from the game. In the event that two or more players are tied for the most votes, there is a (currently hidden) tiebreaking mechanic in place.
5. Night actions have been pre-assigned a priority order that seems sensible to the GM and will be processed in that order.
6. Dead players may make one posthumous post that doesn't contribute to discussion.
7. Forum profile camping is not allowed.
8. Anyone failing to vote for 2 consecutive game days will be mod killed and removed from the game with a loss.
9. To prevent confusion that may arise in the case of cross posting, posts may not be edited.
10. Breaking the rules will result in penalties ranging from warnings to being mod killed depending on the severity of the infraction.
11. Players may not communicate with other players about the game outside the thread via PM, email, chat, quicktopics etc. unless told otherwise.
12. Players must check their PMs each game day before posting. Please make sure your PM's are not full at all times.
13. The village wins when all threats to the village are eliminated and at least one villager remains.
14. If all players are simultaneously eliminated, or the game reaches a stalemate situation, the game is a draw.
15. Directly quoting role PMs or other communication from the GM isn't allowed.
16. Reading the Lurker thread is strictly forbidden
Information revealed in pregame sign-up thread:
- Every player will be a character in the AC universe. Some will be faction leaders, some talents (thinker, engineer, empath, etc.), drones, workers, etc. The latter are not extras but an important part of the game
- Role playing is possible for those that choose too - none of the names will give clues to the scumminess of the player, so revealing your name shouldn't help or hurt you stay alive. Having a general knowledge of Alpha Centauri won't really help you catch wolves or fool the village, although it might help you enjoy the game more
- Keeping with the AC theme, many of the roles grow/discover new technology over time(or build a new secret project) - if they can manage to stay alive
- There are no vanilla villagers, although some will lack power roles on day 1. Obviously some will have stronger powers than others.
- there is a non-random tiebreaking mechanic in place pre-game
Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you.
You win when all threats to humanity are destroyed.

Mankind has been blind for thousands of years-for all of its history. We have come to a place whose wonders are a hundred-fold more amazing than anything on Earth. Around us is clear evidence of the will of a higher power. I bring the Vision to the blind eyes of men. I bring the Word to the deaf ears of men. I will make them see it. I will make them hear it.
(Okay, I know nothing of SMAC and found that on some SMACopedia type thing. The game actually sounds incredibly creative, I think I should check it out.)
Hey everyone! Space Buddha wants to know if you've started your spreadsheet yet, Sareln.
"You are mad, Lal," shouted Colonel Santiago. "This is no matter to vote upon. This will be determined by survival of the fittest. The one left standing has the right to live." Pedro Santiago then promptly lunged himself at Qgqqqqq's throat, muttering to himself "I don't feel like having to type that username a whole game long".
