I revealed mine to have a little fun. I read Bigger's invitation to role play to mean that someone who reveals their name probably isn't going to run into much trouble for it. Mine certainly doesn't have any relation to game mechanics that I'm aware of. If that's true for everyone, then no problem.

In the end I think pressuring everyone into claiming would be more distracting than useful, but I don't feel strongly about it either way.

Role playing is possible for those that choose too - none of the names will give clues to the scumminess of the player, so revealing your name shouldn't help or hurt you stay alive. Having a general knowledge of Alpha Centauri won't really help you catch wolves or fool the village, although it might help you enjoy the game more

I don't agree with the reasoning behind the vote either, but here's how I read that: Last game he was yelled at for trolling, so this game comes around and he really wants to demonstrate he's earnest. So he wants to show he's thinking about things, but with zilch at that point to work with he just can't really get a coherent argument going.

When he called the vote "pointless" it made my ears perk up, but I think it fits in with that same read. He knows he's got to vote for someone, but he doesn't have anything and just wants to get the show on road already to prove to everyone that he's not a jerk.
