btw - as I look at the land, I've noticed that, so far, health resourcs are not as prevalent as I have seen in other games, thus maybe the garden isn't horrible.
Also, I think that early choke attacks with bowmen will be strong.
My temporary tech path is, btw, myst->archery. I think I'll put a city out west of Watership down which will get build granary->rax->bowmen and just annoy my opponent. I think that might be city #3, and not the coastal one. That would be #4 and may be before stonehenge.

This is where I've selected for my aggressive, bowman producing city.
It's got food (sheep, pig), gold (yay happy!) and hammers. It's on a hill, so protective bowmen are something like 9 defense against axes when fortified, without any other promos or culture. Close to invulnerable, in other words.

Come now, that's either Redwall Abbey or Salamandastron

yes, redwall is a good choice. As is efrafa if it's not too early for secondary locations.

So, some C&D:
This is a chart of score and soldiers for each turn, along with what I believe was responsible for growth.
Based on this, Tatan has 2 warriors, with Hunting, Agri (maybe fishing), AH, Mining, BW, Wheel and Mysticism, with 2 cities.
This is as opposed to me, who has:
Hunting, Agri, AH, Wheel, Mining, BW, Pottery and a turn into archery, 2 cities and 1 warrior. Yes, if he so chose, he could walk into my civ and take it pretty easily. That's a farmers gambit for you, baby!!

he founded his 3rd city this turn. I found mine (renamed to Redwall Abbey) in a few turns. I'll be switching to slavery soon to get another worker out and, I think, build stonehenger. Then, the cap goes back to settler/worker duty.

Got my first cottage up and will get a granary in my cap. My opponent does not yet have pottery.
I got archery and have 2 turns to mysticism, then I think it's up to a religion. He will probably be heading to writing after pottery (being creative and all)

he actually went archery after the wheel and has built an archer and a chariot (or 2 warriors - can't tell if the horses are hooked up or not. If it's a chariot, my warrior is running into a buzzsaw
I honestly can't tell, though I think it is hooked up. It almost has to be, no? I mean - he had 2 workers there.
I have mysticism and am going to meditation.
I'm trying to decide on Stonehenge.
A lot of stonehenge will depend on where buddhism ends up. if it's in NIMH, I'll probably ignore stonehenge for now, plop a city down by the copper and build oracle there. If it's not in NIMH... I might ignore it anyway, and pop borders with libs/monuments... I dunno.

Tatan and I played a series of turns tonight. I missed meditation by 1 turn... but I think I'm going to get Oracle.
I'm trying to decide (if I get it) on whether I want CoL or metal Casting. Probably metal casting - it's more expensive, forges are great and Collosus is a decent wonder, especially with copper - and this map has a fair amount of water, too. Don't want to count my chickens before hatching, but...

well, I didn't something I didn't want to do, cause I'm dumb. I moved a bowman and a warrior into range of his chariots, and he killed 'em. He got a little lucky (killed a bowman with < 50% odds), but still - I knew I couldn't kill the horses, but kept going anyway.
That was a mistake... probably not a fatal one, but I have to be careful. Protective means expanding and holding with small forces, not invading his territory.
