The Quarterdeck - Turn Discussion Thread

Chatting with luddite about turnplayer responsibilities right now and it seems like a stable of turnplayers may be the way to go. Ideally turnplayers don't have to do any decision making. They just need to:
  • Begin playing the turn as soon as possible. A group of turnplayers can either alternate turns or a take a "first come first serve" approach, or maybe an informal combination of the two.
  • Make the moves that the team has set out ahead of time.
  • Take abundant screenshots. As in more detailed than most turn reports, because we're not giving info to lurkers, we're giving info to the whole team. Be open to post any information the team requests.
  • Recognize anything unusual and report it promptly to the team for discussion.
  • Take C&D screenshots and post them in the C&D thread.
Anything else?
Ideally the information that gets posted in screenshots or the like is used by the team to get a rolling plan together. Sandbox / MM team figures in heavily here, but sometimes things will come up that require more immediate response, so the turnplayer may need to recognize when it's appropriate to not end the turn and refer back to the team for a decision. (Also why it's important to log in a soon as possible: gives the team more time to come to a decision.)

Also, I'm sorry for the negativity in my last few posts. As much as I was intending to not take a major role when I signed up, I really don't want to have the team fall apart either.

Good plan, Pindicator.
I can join the club of possible turn players if we can get discussion about our moves organized.

Sounds good.

Who else is on micro? I'll update the sandbox, but I can't micro beyond that.

I have Civ 4 BtS and I think the latest update (sometime 2009, something to the effect of FINAL BUILD/RELEASE ... or something like that, I don't remember exactly. I can check for sure later).

Also, our civ is passworded, right?

Hey cornflakes, just read the first post on the it issues/turn tracking thread. It tells you exactly how to connect to the pitboss.

There had to be an explanation for the very confusing fact that I refused a reload despite all other teams agreeing to it. And I personally think that asking for a reload as you did while trying to carry on with no change apparent was a huge lack of respect to all the other guys that until now put a lot of actual time and effort into the game.

Yes, it was strong. Yes I do think you needed a public kick into your backside. No, I don't think it will matter if you shape up as a team.

Right now you got an extended pause to work out your issues. Do that, we'll reload and carry on having a proper game.

No, it's not a spoiler only if it remains unchanged. Your comments still effect the other teams' perception of us, even if we later change it. That'd be like saying that if you posted "Team Pirate have a worker doing X" it isn't a spoiler once that worker has moved on.

I also disagree with your statement that you needed to give an explanation. There are cases where an admin has to make decisions without explaining it (because the explanation would contain spoilers). If you can't do that, quite frankly you shouldn't be the admin. I think this is a case where you simply should have said "As I said, I explained it in their thread. You can see the reason after the game has finished."

I think the other teams statements in the tech thread clearly demonstrate that your post has had an effect on their views on our team -- something which you should have attempted to avoid if at all possible, and I strongly think it was possible.

Anyhow, probably not worthwhile to continue arguing this, but just wanted to make my objections to your post known.

Also for what it's worth, I just shot Dave an email, if only to get him in here to confirm he will continue to be unavailable. Figured might as well get his input on the entire thing.

So, we'll continue with Pindicator as main turn player.
Other turn players are: thestick, Cornflakes and kp.

I'll keep doing diplo.

Who is going to focus on our moves and sandboxing?
And who is going to do C&D?

Pretty dull, I know.

I guess I'm doing sandboxing? I can't update it until this evening, flying home today. Once we get past the early game, someone'll have to help me with wonder micro and stuff.

And just to clarify, the plan is 'whoever can log in first?'

Is there a way to check whether we have the turn without constantly checking the tech issues thread?

OK, I figured out how to connect to the game and log into our Civ so I'm good now. I took a test screenshot and I'll try posting it below ...

It works! For the future is there anything else besides resource bubbles that I need to remember for screenshots?
