The Quarterdeck - Turn Discussion Thread

thestick Wrote:You know, why not settle Pink Dot 1S to get first-ring Gold and Ivory? The main draw here is that we don't have Pottery for Terrances. Chopping a Monument doesn't seem too good of an idea here.

That's a very risky plant. Farther away, less defense - and by the time we get the city up and running we are going to have pottery.

Anyway, this isn't what we need to be discussing now. Right now we need more people on the MM / Sandbox team. One person isn't enough, even if we had Seven. We need people to check work, look at different facets, bounce around ideas.

So who else wants to do MM with thestick?

I think we should settle on pink dot as agreed earlier. Research wheel, pottery and then go straight for Judaism, or if we get lucky Hinduism which will found on pink dot. Will easily win any culture war there if it founds a religion.

After that we should go hunting, archery for defense (unless we have copper in our fat cross) then go for writing.

Whip the second worker as well. Lots of food at capital right now.

Glad to see so many people stepping up to the plate and getting things back on track. I would just like to apologize for my lack of activity, it speaks very poorly of a team captain who has been around lately as little as I have. When Krill first approached me about this game during the summer, I anticipated having a lot more time on my hands when the Fall Semester started. However, between one thing and another I ended up with a much heavier courseload and very little time left for Civ (see lack of updates and long turnplaying times in PBEM38). The fact is that at this particular point in my life, I'm sorry to say, I don't have time for this game. So, I pass on the Captain's position to whomever is up the task. I should still be around, but the team needs someone with more time to devote to heading it up than I have at this point.

My sincerest apologies frown

I don't pretend to be an expert at MM so these are all just my gut reactions, but here is what I would do if I was playing in this position (using the test screenshot I posted a couple days ago for reference):

1. BW in next turn so move worker onto forest in preparation for chop -- 1S? (closer to new city which I assume is going at "Pink Dot," where it will be needed next ... I think worker can begin farming corn 1 turn after founding city.)
2. Queue worker after settler, which will receive the chop ... estimate approx 7 turns to complete. (Workers are always useful in the beginning, right? and we already have 2 Quechuas ["Qcha"] in the vicinity of Pink Dot and one in the capitol that I know of)
3. Move central Qcha generally SE to defog for barbarians and act as escort (are we even playing with barbarians?) and end up on "Pink Dot" hill same turn as Settler.
4. Begin doubling back westernmost Qcha (just off screenshot) along the edge of fog heading southwest of new city. Something like 1SW, then lots of SE.

(NOTE: I realized that after the reload we probably have 2 turns to Bronze Working, which means we have an extra worker turn before moving onto a forest.)

EDIT: It would probably just be easier if I repost the screenshot that I'm talking about ...

I like the steps you have highlighted cornflakes. If we reload then we have an extra turn for the worker. He might as well put a turn into a farm west of the cap then move onto forest the turn after.

No barbs, so no need to worry about protecting settler. Just need to get him to link dot ASAP.

Have we settled on a tech path? Tentative being bw, wheel, pottery, Hinduism (or hunting and archery before hinduism if no bronze available).

I like your tech path kp, although Hunting -> Archery may not be necessary. Depends on how the diplo portion of talking with the Team of 3s goes

yeah i would really like to skip archery.

Seems like the reload will be done tonight. Who can play our turn?

Just to confirm, this is all the turn requires at this point, right?
1. Moving worker 1NW -> Farm for 1 turn
2. Move Qchas
3. Take screenshots (anything specifically?)

If tech path is BW > Wheel > Pottery > [religion @ pink dot] > Hunting/archery?? we should have plenty of time to get out another settler to grab copper before we even get around to archery (which we could then skip). We can decide this better after we see copper in a couple of turns.

I can check back in around 11pm ET if game is reloaded and turn is still unplayed.

Yeah agree archery is a waste if we have copper near us or even somewhere we can plant a third city. Can be skipped.
