Odd. A quick peek at http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/info/units does confirm what you said.
It's only Frigates, Privateers and Ships of the Line that also require Astronomy (and of course Galleons and East Indiamen)

It's a little odd, but I'll happily take it. Astronomy is still an extremely attractive path given how [strike]map hacks[/strike] airships are right there at Physics, and then the line just keeps getting better. But for the bare minimum needed (and that's the motto here), destroyers and transports will do the job.

Okay, so as we wait for the turn to come out of Dave's hands, I figure I'll make a post for you, the dear lurker. As it is obvious that Mist and Dave are dooming one another to irrelevancy, the showdown to win will be between Gaspar and I. The question you are asking yourself, my lurker friend, is who do I root for? To help you out, I have a handy and not at all slanderous aid:

Under the Commodore column, you should add "uses 'who' when he should use 'whom' ".

I guess that works, too .
You're still using "who" in the main text, btw...

But if I want to see those entertaining Hail Mary plays, don't I need to root for Gaspar?
DaveV Wrote:You're still using "who" in the text, btw... Oh, that's the least of his issues. :neenernee. I count 1 error in his title, and at least three in the handy-dandy chart. None that interfere with my comprehension, mind.

Gentlemen, "excellent spelling" is nowhere in the list. I blame being left-handed.

Hah, yes, if Gaspar were the underdog, yes. However, given he has twice the land, MFG, and cities I do at the moment...well, let's just say we broke out the rosary around the time we started researching Biology.
