[spoilers]Commodore is Tokugawa of Zulu, or, playing for second place.

I'd guess that the Mod screwed up it up somehow - note that the reward he should have gotten (combat 1 for all triremes), he couldn't take.

Just a note, been lax about reportage but not many turns have passed. I'm taking the field south to either snipe Monlyth or Indianapolis, or both. I've sent Nakor and Scooter Gunpowder, hopefully to gain Paper and Education in return once I clear Literature.

Hah! So I was just bumbling along there...I figured it was best to try and undercut Pingo, who I've seen researching Gunpowder for a while, by gifting it to Nakor and Scooter in the hope of Paper and Education, respectively. I, um, forgot about someone.

Heh, he's been solid to me, and I'll be asking for more favors in a bit. I made the above deal, didn't mean to fundamentally shift the entire balance of power like that. wink I guess that's what Krill's been spamming up his thread about.

I'll take it. Pity about the worker labor needed there though...

Ever watch MythBusters? Apparently, bulls are really very careful in china shops and rarely knock anything over.

Metaphorical bulls, however, wreck china shops like there's no tomorrow.

So a brief update on what is going on. Morale War Elephant took down Cyneheard's terrorphract, baited out by a worker.

I'm sniping a city off of Yuri before he folds completely.

Beyond that, more of the same.

Hah.

So recall how I gifted Gunpowder to scooter in the hopes of getting other trades back?

Bastard coated bastard with bastard filling flipped the tech to Cyneheard.

As an outside observer, without any relevent special knowledge, I am neither surprised nor pleased that he did that.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.
