Here's a question for my lurkers:
Do you think I should have pulled back, gotten crossbows and a decent sized stack, and retaken VultureRoad later, when I could have held it? I now kind of think I should have done that...

So, looking forward - I think I have to take the battle to... scooter and/or pindicator. i can't really take on commodore.
Plan:
Switch to org rel
Builld 2 missionaries, a stable in cap, a rax in borntovulture, then a bunch of HA/xbows/cats.
Go attack scooter or pindicator.
Kick off a GA with my next GP and switch to theology.

ok, after last turn, i have the ability to take some revenge on scooter, at least.

he has 3 workers working edge tiles. 2 are protected by an axe and a spear, great defense against chariots/vultures/etc. Toast vs. crossbow/vulture. I'll road next to the workers and hit 'em.
Depending on what I find, I'll then cover the vulture or send it to kill another worker. I hope to keep the workers if I can - if not, deleting is ok.
163 hammers for 40 or so is a good pay back for him razing my city.
6 turns to catapults. Commodore placed a city near the ruins of VultureRoad, so that's a pain.

Poor Commodore - he sent the save and I noticed he had built Soz. But it's banned.
I ended up just taking one worker - he had moved one of the workers doig the ivory away, but I wacked the axe and spear guarding it. I thought about taking the other worker, but didn't want to lose the vulture to a chariot, so I covered it with the horse.
Got my GG - current plan is:
Promote 2 x-bows to either G3, C3 or Drill 3, thus unlocking HE for me.
Build that in BorntoVulture. That should given me 1 turn HA or cats, maybe x-bows.
Go raze cities. (that part will take some time)

I thought I had posted here last night... guess not.
switched to hinduism (didn't realize I had never adopted it). Commodore is making more catapults, so I can't go kill people quite yet - he might come for BornToVulture and that would suck.

nothing quite like 2-turning HE and then being able to, I think, 1 turn catapults. nice...

Founded Vulture Days in the jungle on the gems, thus helping my happy cap considerably.
Commodore had a large power drop - presumably, he failed in his attack on scooter. That's good - keeps things in balance.
Scooter is saving money for a run on feudalism.

Sniped a worker and whacked a phalanx and spear from commodore without loss.
presumably, he'll start covering workers with crossbow/spear combos soon.
I think my first target is either one of pindicator's towns or one of scooters.

so, scooter dumped a stack of something like 11 HA on the hills outside of VultureLand, led by a GG HA with shock, formation and CII.
I sent an HA at that stack, to hurt the GG... and he won!! I killed another, unpromoted, one, with another and am whipping in a spear.
I will have a spear and a CG I archer and a really damaged HA in that city. Frankly, my adventures last turn seemed to be perfectly timed to hose me - my HA reserve was in pindicators and my other researve was in Commodore's lands.
I'll almost certainly lose Vultureland, which basically does it for me. I'll lose iron and copper, and thus the ability to make... you know... anything.
Ah well. Was a good game.
It's POSSIBLE I survive this. Scooter may give it up as a bad game, since he'll lose his entire stack in my counterattack and his power rating will tank.
But I think he'll press the attack.
