[SPOILERS] Stonehenge First: scooter's thread

scooter Wrote:Actually that was my reaction too. I was like "I swear I have to be missing somebody" and then I counted up my cities. I was the only person with <5 cities for an eternity!

so.. Starburns is next, or the principal? wink

Well.... currently I don't really have the room so that will require killing cities and I don't want to jinx myself by discussing this....... but yeah, I kinda figured Dean has to be next.

I should've saved this theme for a game with more cities so I could get into minor characters, but oh well!

Pictures will have to come later tonight, but we played a couple more turns today. Commodore got Grenadiers, but at the same time I was getting Military Tradition. Anyways, I worked some Knights and got them to auto-completed a few Cavs as MilTrad came in, and I got a couple more after that. That should temper the Grenadier fear. I am concerned about my southern cities though where Grenadiers can march right up and take a swing. Not tons I can do about that for now though.

T143-145 goes city hunting again

First though, dang Commodore:

I've honestly never seen that kind of garrison for such a crappy size 4 city before that didn't involve covering a recently captured city. I'm stocking more Rifles into Abed to cover myself here, and Cannons would really be nice honestly. Anyways, I saw a little way to be annoying:

Guerilla Rifle on a forest hill should kill off quite a few units right?

Also, I'm prepping for some fun on T144:

There's 3 cavs in Abed and 1 more in Troy , so there's more here than it looks. Next turn I'll road that tile of mine up there. My Cavs once promoted can get odds in the high 60s (plus withdraw) on the best unit, and after the first couple it should be a slaughter. I got quite a few Cavs in 4ish turns:

That's part timing Knights, part upgrades, and part just having really strong MFG. Also got lucky-ish and got a prophet:

Someday that'll be part of my 3man GA. Not really THAT lucky, but I already have 2 scientists and I had 40% odds at another, so I was hoping for anything else.

Anyways, T145 rolled around and apparently that was only good enough to kill 2 Muskets:

Sucky part was giving him a general, bleh. Anyways, let's do this:

Down goes Pindicator X. Burned of course. I then covered that Cav with a Guerilla 2 Rifle, so that Cav should survive. Anyways, this is now the... 7th city I've taken or burned I believe? Commodore is the only one who I haven't taken one from. AT I think I took 6 or so from, including burning two of them twice. So if nothing else I'm winning the razing crown while losing 0 cities so far, which I believe is kind of cool considering I've been near last in military nearly all game until the last 25T or so. smile

T148 finally loses a city

Took some of the jerks down with me though smile.

The real question for Commodore is was it worth it?

I'll be curious to look at the power graph next turn to see how it stacks up... Or maybe Noble will do what he did last time and go through the hassle of tallying up the kills for me since I just don't feel like it lol. Anyways, that's quite a few units he lost for what was by far my weakest city. It's annoying to me for sure, but Myr might be in a tricky spot next turn, depending on how much he'll stack in it:

I've got 16 Cavs, all double-promoted and nearly all healthy and 4 random semi-wounded Knights. That would just roll over what's in the city now, no question, but what I don't know is how heavily he can reinforce it. I'm guessing pretty easily or he wouldn't have risked it? I don't know. I'm assuming he'll be able to cover it, but who knows.

Oh, the major bummer here was losing my starting archer that was promoted up to a roided Rifle frown. I was much more sad about that than I was losing the city. lol

noooo! poor Pierce!!!

in post 194, is that a great engineer just standing by himself in the middle of your empire? lol what is he for?

Couldn't take Myr this turn - he put a little too much in it and I just have too many wounded hitters. I think I've put him in a bit of a bind next turn, but as always it depends on what's in the fog.

That's several great people actually wink. Engineer, Prophet, Scientist. Anyways, Engineer is being saved for a wonder to be named later. Or rather, decided later. Depends on what happens the next few turns. Other great people being saved for the eventual 3-man GA or possibly a bulb or two, depending on which "first to" great people I get. Commodore just got the Communism Spy for one.

T149 plays with fire

So I'm taking a bit of a risk here, and I have no idea how Commodore will respond. Anyways, here was the power graph impact:

Considering all his border cities are stacked to the gills with units, I think it's safe to say he has pretty much no units anywhere else. So I did this:

I have no idea how this will work. However, the one thing that was killing me with Myr was that every attack was across a river, so my true (non 2-move bugged) odds were actually quite bad to knock off those top 6 units or so, and past that I have a bunch of wounded units. Several of these guys moving forward are still wounded, but I want to put pressure on his core here. I don't believe he has any (or hardly any) Cuirassers left, as he's managed a LOT of Grenadiers in a short time which suggests he hasn't built Cuirassers lately. He used up his cats on Pierce, though I do see one. Lys is defended by that fresh Grenadier and two archers, so not very intimidating. Anyways, this is awkward for Commodore. What isn't pictured here is that I have several more units in range of Myr (in fairness though, from across a river) that can also hit next turn. My odds on flat ground are noticeable better than across a river, so this will be interesting.

Pindicator could strike at my Heroic Epic city. He doesn't have near enough to seriously 1-move me, but he might be able to make it a little hairy if he put me under siege. For this reason, I'm probably going to swap into Nationalism next turn and do some drafting for 5 turns while I invade with the 2-movers. Nationalism isn't much worse than Bureaucracy at this point anyways.

If Commodore has more than I'm expecting, this could spectacularly backfire. However, I've got a window here so I'm going for the kill while I can. No idea if he can handle this or not.

Just realized my wording in the previous post implied I attacked Myr. Nope, I didn't try as you can see. However, my odds against the top units were not very good, and once I get past those I have wounded units, so I went with this alternative. Maybe after the game is over I'll go back and play this turn and see if it was possible to take it, but I'd bet it was not.
