The Quarterdeck - Turn Discussion Thread

I agree that Quechuas are obsolete, and for that very reason I suggested stopping the build at Tortuga now that M3 has moved on. Yes, it only needs one more hammer to complete but this slows down the worker (and later the terrace) by a turn. If M3 comes knocking again we can switch back and get it EOT whenever it will be useful.

At Barbados we can actually get some use out of another Quechua. We cannot attack either of M3's warriors 2v1 now without leaving Barbados exposed. Isn't saving access to our FP farm and/or cow pasture for four turns is worth the 15H Quechua (also the worker turns to replace the improvements and the delaying the axe to Tortuga because it needs to wipe out the warriors first).

However, when looking at the pictures above I noticed an even bigger argument for building another Q ... the warrior currently 1W of our Q's can move E-NE-N and end up between Barbados and Port Royal on the same turn that the workers will be chopping the forest. We will need to kill it when it reaches that position before we move the workers in to chop, and for that we will need 2 Q's to attack and one to hold the city against the other M3 warrior.

I agree quechas are obsolete but as cornflakes mentions we will need to protect port royale by attacking and for that we will need another quecha. Also I think we should finish the quecha at tortuga. Then build the worker.

Alright, Quechua it is at Tortuga. But here's another alternative I thought of for Barbados.

T43 (this turn) Workers: already moved; Barbados: Put overflow into either settler or worker [M3] X-2SW of Barbados
T44 Workers: mine (2/4); Barbados: switch build to something that allows growth [M3] X-1SW of Barbados
T45 Workers: finish mine; Barbados: whatever tiles we need to work to get 5 hammers into an Axe (5/30) [M3] X-1W of Barbados
T46 Barbados whips the Axe (stacks whip, but we get it EOT), our Q's attack X 1W since we get Axe. Our workers are than free to chop if we want (putting the overflow into someting next turn) or not chop and do something else.

I don't think whipping back to Size 1 is a good idea.

Good point on the chop. Then again, will they head straight for the forest over pillaging? On second thought, if they pillage our road connection 1W of Barbados, we're in even more trouble. Quechua it is, we need to keep that road open.

5 Quechuas isn't good. Monarchy run, anyone? And probably going to hold off on playing until we get some sort of concensus.

It occurred to me to check which civ M3 was playing (i joined after the game began). They have Khmer. Are war elephants allowed?

I agree that we don't want a second whip. I just threw it out so we can see all our options. We need to save our pop (and anger) for whip of the terrace.

At this point the opportunity cost of a Quechua is not tooooo bad. Those hammers can't go into a terrace, we don't need a barracks or monument, we are building a worker each already at Tortuga and Port Royal.

Haven't seen the map in a while but how many luxury resources do we have? Monarchy run happiness may not be that bad of an idea if we are food rich but happy poor.

Are these our moves?
Finish the Quechua at Tortuga, queue up Quechua in Barbados, and queue up Worker in Port Royal.

kp, the screenshots of the map we sent to TEAM is Page 36, Post 357. That's the extent of our scouting. We have Gold and Ivory thanks to Tortuga, and there's a source of Furs halfway between us and TEAM.

Those moves have my vote. Did we move our Q's NE yet? We are at about 21.5 hours now with the turn (although the timer says 7 hours remaining). I'll be home and able to log into the game in about an hour unless you can get to it sooner.

There's also a Furs to the west of Tortuga north of M3. Both furs are about equally far from us.

Do we have graphs on M3 yet? Maybe after ending turn?

We're up. 20 hours on the timer.

worker actions: both mine the copper
build actions: every city is on workers
military actions:

As predicted, the other M3 warrior showed up south of Tortuga this turn. I think we might want to move one of our Quechas to the forest SW of Tortuga to deny the tile to him.

Near Barbados - he moved to the forest SW of the city. I think we might want to move one of our Quechas N onto the road. He won't see it, and might be baited into moving onto one of the farms. The other option is to move one of the quechas onto a farm tile this turn. The simpler, third option is to pack the capitol with both of them (making 3 units in there)
