Third time's the charm - Mardoc plays the Pirates [SPOILER]

Merovech Wrote:Bigger, if you have BTS 3.19, which I assume you do if you can play multiplayer games here, where pretty much everyone uses it, you should be able to play without the CD.

I should play able to play BTS, or just mods?

hmm, thanks, I'll try it then.

Should be able to play both. One of the last BtS patches was a no-CD patch.
HidingKneel Wrote:So, what's the long-term plan? Conquest/domination victory? If so, what's the timeframe for switching from economic focus to military focus?

Honestly, at the moment I'm thinking we'll go for a Dimensional Gate victory. It requires teching to the end of the tree, building 6 of one type of building and 1 of another. But I think our tech rate is growing fast enough that should work.

Although, if we do go for a military answer, which might be necessary anyway once either someone wins the Sareln-Maniac war or Iskender kills someone or tries to kill us...

I think the right time to go full military is post-Cryogenics, when we have planes.

For the moment, though, my focus is on just staying alive and keeping people from attacking us.

merovich, I love you =). Of course I had 3.19, I just had no idea it was a no-CD thing. Firaxis games (unlike, say, paradox games) have always required the CD, so I just assumed.

Just got it working, I'm gonna be up all night playing it hehe. I'll start off with the pirates so maybe I can be of some use eventually wink.

hmm, apparently you can't play an expansion faction if you have 7 or less players in the game (they weren't an option until I added the 8th player). However, now I'm able to play Sven in the "arrival" setting even though Maniac said it required "expansion" time. Well, we'll see if that causes problems! woohoo =).

Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

so much new stuff huh

so I started a trial game with maniac's suggested settings (std, 11 players). apparently leaving all the ai slots to "random" does not mean you get all 11 available players. I had 2 miriams and 2 lals before I quite and started over, haha. also, I guess as a result of picking sven in the arrival era, after turn 1 I got the option to abandon my civ and join the "newly founded" civ of the pirates rolleye

Mardoc, how are you doing for city names? Running out yet?

Change to "expansion era". Do an unrelated change, like changing the difficulty. The expansion factions will then show up for selection. You can pick one, then change the starting time back to arrival(and change the difficulty or whatever back as well).

I could definitely use more. I've been using things that are just naval for a while now, like Destroyer and Torpedo and Frigate. Would prefer to go back to doctrines, if I knew more.

Edit: here's my current city list.

Played 105 this morning, founded Frigate on our island, spread Voice of Planet some more, started exploring the mainland and Iskender-land, but haven't found anything exciting either place yet.

There's yet another Concordat resolution for peace rolleye. Man, these two aren't ever going to get to end their wars. Which...is probably a good thing, because it's going to be a while before they get to stop investing hugely into military, too.

How about the Sirian Doctrine?

3 WWII naval doctrines I remember from Hearts of Iron II -
Fleet in being (you have) but you're missing
1. Sealane Interdiction (german naval strategy)
2. Base Strike (USA and japan naval doctrine)

I also like Merovich's suggestion.
