We want blood! Might as well use those highly-promoted, amphibious Rifles. :war2:

I agree, this has been a very interesting game, but I think the "rating starts/leader" probably wouldn't work out well (and rating player skill is probably not the best idea...).
I think that the RBMod-lite would probably be the best way to go - but remember that they'll probably work on balancing some of the issues of this game after it's over. As for the rest of the mod - do you dislike/ambivalent to/like the other changes (e.g. workshops/windmills/civics/war elephants etc.)?

Also... (sorry for rego-style) I don't think partial balancing would work well, I think either totally random (+ tiny amount of balancing to make starts reasonable) or totally balanced.

You are ALWAYS welcome to rego-style post in this thread :D. I'm always at a disadvantage to Rego because I hit enter for a new paragraph and he hits "Submit Reply" instead. So I'll take all the lurker help I can get . Qgqqqqq Wrote:I agree, this has been a very interesting game, but I think the "rating starts/leader" probably wouldn't work out well (and rating player skill is probably not the best idea...). First, I don't see a problem with partial balancing. To me it's no less arbitrary than Krillmod balancing the leaders/civs and then rolling all random. As long as the criteria is set ahead of time, no problem. All the other changes in the mod are a decidedly mixed bag IMO. I like the workshop change for instance. It comes way too late IMO which is part of why I've never liked them very much - they don't come until the point where cottages are coming into their own. However, all the changes (like the workshop one) come as a necessity of the slavery nerf... and I've come to hate the slavery nerf. It's so artificial and fundamental to the game. I don't care that slavery is really strong - it's a key game mechanic. So yeah, the slavery nerf is the worst part about Krillmod IMO. It's not that it's not better balanced, it's just that it isn't fun. It's like playing epic speed. Sure that's fun for about 15 people, but it's not for me. Expansion is so slow, and the slavery mod artificially increases the value of stuff like chopping. But yeah, take out the slavery nerf and you need to remove workshop/mine changes and all that, and the mod quickly unravels from there. I actually think the slavery nerf was what ruined Krillmod, as it's what caused it to go from a balancing mod to a redesign mod. I'm not intersted in a redesign mod. The main thing is I don't think anything besides the traits are significantly better balanced... It's just a metagame alteration. That's the crux of my mild dislike of the mod. I don't think it's bad and there's stuff I like, but it tries to do way too much. So yeah, given the choice between A) Full random game with RB Mod or B) Full random vanilla game with some mild arbitrary balancing (no map editing), I'll take B.

That's 8 straight logins from Regopin. Yes people, they login like they post.
They're also having an identity crisis on the side.
My problem with partial balancing is people have disagreements about how important certain things are, and if its simple ranking then what if Pacal is only down a wet rice (for example) on tokugawa? That just brings in more balancing, removing the point of randomness. P.S. In Pingo's thread that would be 4 posts.

Qgqqqqq Wrote:They're also having an identity crisis on the side. Basically, it's not meant to be perfect at all. It's still meant to be imperfect. In a 10 player game, the 3rd-8th civ/leader/starts should all be debatable. You might argue over the 4/5/6 spots, but you should be able to look at #2 and #8 and see one is clearly better. So just counteract those a little bit is a really simple balancing mechanism while preserving the randomness of the map and leader rolls (which is the real fun). Qgqqqqq Wrote:P.S. I'll make the map and do the balancing, I'll try to be fair and don't care if people hate me anyways: see WW16
