It used to show a list of all threads containing posts that were "unread" for you, sorted by most recent reply. (All posts become marked as "read" for everyone after some time period, maybe 30 or 60 days? So really old stuff that never got replies would eventually drop off on its own.) Currently, the New Posts view seems to only show (unread (edit: oh it also shows read too)) posts from the last hour. I'm not sure how that is a useful feature, except I guess it could make sense for giant forums where searching farther back than that is completely impractical.

Found a plugin which basically does that, give it a shot, "View unread posts" link top right.

Slightly strange results:

* The site just got a lot slower for me.

* Every single unread post now advertises this fact in bright red text.

* That button is showing me the most recent 1000 threads, excluding ones I've read recently. About a third of the threads are more than a year old; these show up as unread. The majority of the threads, I have actually read (or marked as such), but they show up as unread anyway.

I bet the plugin stores its own "unreadness" flags and doesn't use the base data from the forum.

So it seems like whenever I reply to a thread, it seems like it auto-subscribes that thread?

Yeah rego, I got that too. Try User CP - Edit Options to change that behavior at the option named "Default Thread Subscription Mode". It can be either don't subscribe, or subscribe with email notification (very noisy), or subscribe without email notification (my favorite since you can browse subscribed threads from the User CP.)

yeah, I noticed that too. I get so many email notifications now, heh.

There's an option for it in your usercp, please make sure it's not set to subscribe.

There's two min-width declarations in global.css - body { min-width: 1000px; } and .wrapper { min-width: 970px; }. Get rid of those (possibly by using a custom stylesheet if you're so inclined) and it seems to look very fluid indeed in Opera 12.

EDIT: also, star_ratings.css's ".star_rating .current_rating" currently has text-indent: -1000px, which looks to me like something evil might occur if you're at a lower resolution and don't also compensate for this. That said, I can't find any references to either of those classes at this time, so go figure.

EDIT EDIT: Also, seeing any reference to using PIXELS as a measurement for things like padding and margins at values anywhere near the double digits (let alone well into them) makes me scream in rage and horror. But I'm a purist like that. Rar.


Oh, and hai world! Since there's different forum software I think I can register now without fear that the servers were penetrated to a degree that doing so would be actively unsafe. :D Have been previously non-participatory lurking for, um, quite some time.
