PBEM 45 Vets Tech Thread

I'd prefer banning at least Vikings and I could go either way on Dutch. I think Pindicator has a pretty good framework there. I'm okay either way on quick / normal as long as everyone has a high PYFT ranking

So Rego cornered me on gmail chat and we hashed out a proposal for restricting leaders & civs:

* You can pick one of FIN, EXP, ORG, India, Inca
* If you pick one of the above, then you cannot pick SPI, PHI, IND, CRE, dutch, viking

Thoughts?
Too restrictive on the top-end stuff? Anything we left out?
Scooter will be back tomorrow so he will also want to input on it, but we can refine as much as possible until then


@Ruff_hi, I'm okay with you having cosmetic changes to your empire. Gonna have to get Commodore to get those put in for you.

Regarding Ruff proposal, I wouldn't care that much about using a mod. But I think it's too much of a hassle, since you never even see the leaders face/name in a MP game. Renaming the civ/leader/civilization adjective and such would give the same result, wouldn't it?

True - that is my fall back. You can see your own face (if you know what I mean) by looking at the 'stats' tab on the F8 screen ... or one of them somewhere around there.

That ban list looks interesting enough to me. My only hesitation is if you get last in the pick order twice you're going to have a rough selection I would think? I'll try to think about the implications tomorrow when I'm driving home. It's best to do a mental mock draft and try to see if it sounds remotely reasonable. I imagine it'll be OK.

Edit: also, on my status. I'll be home tomorrow evening EST. I'd also think we'd like to look at our starts right? I guess I need to make a thread so Commodore can put my start in it. Anyways, if we sign off on this, we can probably start the draft Tuesday if that works. Also, prefer to avoid a mod here.

I can make this simpler: short list of absolutely out options (FIN, EXP, Vikings, Dutch)(Or whatever you choose)(And maybe like PRO too so no one is THAT Screwed) And then I can roll a random Civ/Leader setup excepting those, and then randomize who gets what.

Of course if you actually ya know wanna make your own picks it'd be right out, but thought it would be worth offering as a suggestion.

Question for the players:

Do we want Commodore to reveal the world wrap before picks? I'm guessing it's toroid, but if it isn't then maybe ORG doesn't need to be up with FIN & EXP in the restricted list

I am okay with Commodore revealing difficulty and world wrap.

In thinking about the list this morning, I was thinking perhaps swapping ORG and Vikings. Putting Vikings in the top list and ORG in the 2nd list. Also I thought we had talked about banning GLH?

And I agree with scooter that I'd like to pick my leader / civ.

I think we should hold off on getting our starts until we have the pick rules set.

I'd keep ORG in the top list, toroid/Prince is the plan at the moment. Although poor Mr. Peter probably doesn't deserve being lumped with Sury, Izzy, and Bismark in my opinion, nor would I place Fredrick on the ban list.
