my turn 1: wake up 2 mutons and a berserker, kill one muton
alien turn 1: every alien on the map activates and most of them come screaming at me (3 berserkers + 5 regular mutons + 6 chryssalids...) and I thought I was going to wipe

fortunately I'd just finished titan armour and heavy plasma and managed to survive, because my troops could survive a berserker hit and my heavy could reliably spit out 18 damage per turn on the berserkers

Well, that and allowing the berserkers to hit me a couple of times while I nuked all the regular mutons in sight of my main force on the first turn, so I could ignore cover while dealing with the melee aliens.

Total death count is 15 including a captain and 6 lieutenants. Two missions that ended with one hero super medic survivor (the same guy and the only colonel on my roster - it's month 5) accounted for most of the carnage.

It does sound familiar but I can't be sure. I do remember the building had a second storey as the Cyberdisks flew out of it so they could almost shoot down on top of me whilst the Chrysalids either charged me or created zombies. They were so near that my Cpt sniper was one-shoted by a Cyberdisk on turn 2 against the back perimeter

Can I sound petty for a moment? Just beat the game, game gives me a pat on the head and says here's your score (7k) compared to the average of the world (something much higher).

And I'm sitting there wondering why the score is so low and then notice that I'm running under a bunch of statistics (# aliens killed, amount of money earned etc.) because my time was relatively quick (I did the final mission on Sept. 1, 2015; with a total of 31 missions). So more than the story, that really spoilt it for me b/c it felt like the game was telling me that the "urgent" objectives it gave me weren't supposed to be taken as seriously as I did I guess. *shrug* oh well.

The statistics are fairly obviously messed up by cheaters lol

Yeah global stats are terrible comparison. A Lot of late game milking with fully upgraded squads for no purpose. Plus saving and reloading is allowable so most people aren't playing ironman. IF you look at steam achievements, very few people have beat the game on Ironman at all, much less classic/impossible.

Well the global average for scientists is something like 30 million, so it's not hard to figure out what's going on!

Agreed - interesting to see that only 4.2% have beaten Classic difficulty and only 1.0% Classic or higher Ironman

The comparison stats did leave me wondering, they were so ridiculously large compared to mine. 25+ times the money spent, etc. Completely irrelevant as soon as you realize how badly skewed they are.

We should run a SG for this and see how many times Haphazard's character dies again

I'd play a SG.

I'm up for an SG as well - maybe Classic with some kind of limitation ? Doubt if actual Ironman mode would work as a swap but play that way anyway ?
