[SPOILERS] Novice's nominal nonchalance

Having had a chance to have a proper look - I've reassigned some techs for Nicolae, he seemed most plausible as the third person with Writing.

About to start on the C&D for the turns that came through while I was away, so hopefully will post an update on that later smile and that will take longer than I thought it would, probly no update tonight on it.

Wow, that took longer than I thought it would. And just as I catch up, the next turn comes in ... I shall do that afterwards (maybe not right away coz my brain is fried) though as with any luck we get graphs back EOT to help out with power assignments.

My rough turn by turn notes are behind the spoiler cut and then I'll do a little more of a coherent summary.

Turn 44 corrections

Nico got 3k of units or buildings - I do have him down as having teched archery, so we'll put that as an Archer.

Mackoti got 6k units, most likely an Axe.

Serdoa got 4k units, putting down as a Spear.

Turn 45

Seven grew his capital to size 5 & his third city to size 3.

Serdoa got land points.

Serdoa got 6k soldiers, putting that as a Vulture.

Turn 46

Seven grew his capital to size 6 & his fourth city to size 2.

Nicolae grew all his cities by 1 pop (now they are 6, 5, 3). He also lost 4k of units, assuming that's a WC.

Seven (with a library) or Mackoti (with a terrace) popped the borders of one of their cities for 9 land tiles.

Mackoti researched Polytheism and built a Quechua.

Power unclear, as Seven should've gone up by 1k. If he isn't bottom then means Serdoa lost 14k of units (Vulture+Spear+Warrior+Warrior?). But if he is bottom then Serdoa lost 7k (Archer+Spear) which feels a little more sensible.

Seven got a tech w/ no power, possibly Fishing. Alternatively - he researched Archery and Serdoa did lose all those units.

Was going to go with archery/serdoa losing units after seeing T48. But T50 suggests Fishing for Seven. So going with an Axe for Seven and Serdoa losing the units (coz otherwise power numbers don't make much sense).

Turn 47

Seven grew city2 & city3 from 3 to 4.

Nico whipped city2 5->4.

Serdoa grew city3 2->3. And built an Archer.

Turn 48

Serdoa's 4th city's borders popped for 12 land tiles.

Not sure if Serdoa got a tech or not, score looks like he did but score doesn't seem to reflect all the pop changes.

Serdoa whipped his cap 4->2, grew city2 3->4, grew city4 1->2.

Serdoa's power went up by 6k, Vulture?

Nico has built something culture producing, from the graphs - probably a library.

Turn 49

Mackoti research Monotheism, getting Judaism. Reassigned tech back on T35 to Masonry.

Nico researched a classical era tech, probably Maths.

Serdoa grew his cap to size 3 & settled a new city for 9 land tiles.

Seven grew his cap to size 4 & both his second & third city to size 5.

Nico got 3k of units/buildings - saying an Archer.

Serdoa built 7k of units, saying 1xspear, 1xArcher.

Turn 50

Serdoa built the Buddhist Shrine, grew his cap to size 4 & whipped city2 4->3 & city3 3->2.

Nico whipped his capital from 6 to 4, and popped the borders of city2 for 9 land tiles.

Seven grew his cap from 4 to 5, whipped city2 or city3 down from 5 to 3, and planted a new city (not clear how many land tiles).

Mackoti grew his third city from 1 to 2, and popped the borders on a city for up to 18 land tiles (less whatever Seven got).

Seven got a tech, and 2k power, guessing Sailing.

Turn 51

Power graph shows Mack's power increasing to 60k, but that's too high for the demos numbers. Am assuming he built something worth 4k, and had something worth 4k whacked by Serdoa (after him in turn order). I had him as having a Chariot, so I've removed that & added a Spear (could be a chariot replacement, might not've been a chariot in the first place).

Serdoa got 1k power for pop, again this would be above the demos, so lost 2k - saying it was a Warrior.

Seven's third city grew from 3 to 4.

Serdoa grew his cap from 4 to 5 & his third & fourth cities from 2 to 3.

Seven
  • Cities:
    • Capital @ size 5
    • 1 @ size 5
    • 1 @ size 4
    • 1 @ size 2
    • 1 @ size 1
  • Army: 7 Warriors, 1 Axe.
  • Techs: Mining, Myst, Agri, AH, BW, Wheel, Pottery, Hunting?, Writing, Mathematics, Fishing?, Sailing?. 221 beakers ahead of us.

Since T44 (the last one I did C&D for) he has researched Fishing (T45) and Sailing (T49). He's built an Axe (probably) and a Warrior. He settled a new city on his T43 (already mentioned) and one on his T50. I'm guessing he's researching towards Calendar at the moment.

Nicolae
  • Cities:
    • Capital @ size 4
    • 1 @ size 5
    • 1 @ size 4
  • Army: 2 War Chariots, 2 Archers, 2 Warriors.
  • Techs: Agri, Wheel, AH, Mining, BW, Hunting, Writing, Pottery, Archery, Fishing?, Mathematics. 135 beakers ahead of us.

I did a bunch of re-assignment for Nico's techs - giving him Writing T30, then Pottery T32, Archery T39, Fishing T41. Then in the time since T44 I only have him down as getting a Classical era tech on T48, Mathematics. I think he's been involved in fighting with Serdoa - on their T45 they both lost power (I think Nico lost a WC). Thanks to him flashing an Archer at us this turn I'm sure he's got Archery & has built at least one Archer. He hasn't settled any more cities, just going for vertical growth.

Mackoti
  • Cities:
    • Capital @ size 6
    • 1 @ size 4
    • 1 @ size 2
  • Army: 6 Quechuas, a Spear (or Chariot) and an Axe.
  • Religion: Judaism
  • Techs: Myst, Agri, AH, Mining, Wheel, BW, Pottery, Hunting?, Masonry, Iron Working?, Polytheism, Monotheism. 211 beakers ahead of us.

Mackoti got his third city settled on his T40, and has just been growing (slowly and) vertically since. He seems to've been involved in fighting with Serdoa - I think he lost 4k of units last turn (tho that's a guess coz the number he's got on his power graph is higher than the number in the demos. I'm interpreting that as Serdoa killing a unit after the end of Mackoti's turn). I'm pretty certain he's the one who got Judaism on his T48. He is still not in slavery.

Serdoa
  • Cities:
    • Capital @ size 5
    • 3 @ size 3
    • 1 @ size 1
  • Army: 3 Warriors, 2 Archers, a Spear, a Vulture
  • Wonders: Stonehenge, Oracle, Buddhist Shrine
  • Religion: Buddhism
  • Techs: Agri, Wheel, AH, Mining, BW, Myst, Medi, Priesthood, Pottery, Metal Casting (Oracled), Hunting, Archery?, Writing. 467 beakers ahead of us.

Since T44 he's actually built some units instead of wonders, and looks like there's been some skirmishing with both Nico & Mackoti. He used his prophet on the Buddhist Shrine on his T49. He settled cities on his T43 & T49. He may've got another tech on his T46 but it isn't entirely clear (the score change looks like a tech, but there's not enough changes in pop-type numbers to reflect all his pop changes).

Everyone got pop or lost pop and it doesn't seem straightforward. I'll have to put more thought into that later.

Power was straightforward though - I think Serdoa got 2k of units, putting it down as a Warrior. (Which would mean one of his cities isn't hooked up to copper, or I've mis-assigned the 4k & 6k I've got down as Spear & Vulture respectively).

Played turn 53. I'd like to mail in the turns at this point, but even though my economy is shot to hell, figuring out how to settle this map is an intriguing puzzle.

I've uncovered practically all tiles now - where would you settle your next city? I pondered it for half an hour but didn't really come to a conclusion.

Economywise, at least Beach Ball and Ice Cream have completed libraries now so I can run some scientists. My teching capacity has been essentially zero the last set of turns. (GNP of 16, you get the picture...) I'm on masonry now, and will grab Monotheism for missionaries and Org. Rel. Then fishing->sailing, and Mathematics->Calendar. With Math I can build Hammams as well. I might bulb Math, I'll have a great scientist on hand by the time I've completed Sailing.

I've settled the gems city and the filler city of Surf Zone to work more cottages. Surf Zone should probably have been my first city...

Mackoti hasn't expanded southwest of his capital at all.
I have to run.

How about 1E of the plains cow north of Beach Ball? Cow and fish, plus secures ice silver (crappy to work but good to have for happy) in the 3rd ring and dyes too.

Regarding settling, there are some interesting options. I think I know what I would go for next. How much did your last city cost you?

Edit: Aw, Rego ninja-ed my idea. cry

Really? You'd both go for that spot? It wasn't even on my radar.

Surf Zone was my latest city so it only cost 3gpt maintenance - in other words it was a net profit. Number of cities maintenance is still small. Total maintenance in Beach Ball is about 6gpt, I think.

I should clarify that I can't really afford cities that aren't worth anything to my economy, and my ability to pop borders is limited (although I'll have access to OR ~T58).
I have to run.

Well I was looking for spots with food that weren't too far away from your capital (for maintenance porpoises)

Another one might be 1W of the pigs in the far north?

Plains hill 2N of sheep. Research sailing, chop galley, settle gold.
If you know what I mean.

Also, the ice tile south of your capital is begging for a city. Probably not the next one, but aesthetically it just demands a city at some point in this game.
