Poked CFC/Caledorn about our message we sent to them:

Chat with CFC/Caledorn Wrote:scooter: Hey just checking in - did you get our last message to you?
Not meaning to rush you if you've been busy - we just sent a message to you guys a litlte over a week ago and I wanted to make sure you got it smile
Caledorn: Yes, yes it did. I'm sorry I have forgot to notify you. We are working on a response. I've been swamped lately with stuff that's going on rl that's affecting me quite negatively
scooter: oh no problem - we're in no hurry. and sorry to hear about RL issues. hope things are OK
Caledorn: I may ask someone to assist me for a few weeks if I don't get up from this down within a few days.
I am just hoping it won't be needed as I feel you and I have a "good connection" (no idea how to say that without it sounding corny.. tongue), so I'm doing my best to avoid that smile
scooter: yeah I agree, really sorry to hear things haven't gone well lately. I hope you're doing better soon!
Caledorn: Thank you smile I appreciate that a lot smile

We talked a little bit after this as he explained a little of what's going on. That seemed personal though and not intended for public consumption, so I'll leave that out. But yeah, the point is it sounds like his hands are full with some difficult personal stuff, so that's what's going on with the delay. Not worried about this then, the info we were swapping (map info) isn't crucial. He's hoping to get back to us soon, but if he can't, he'll hand over the job to somebody else.

It's great to hear from you - our people are happy to have met you. We are a peaceful nation - our people are known to pray at the Obelisks that have sprung up across our empire.

We are thrilled to hear your warriors have kept you safe from the barbarians. They are quite dangerous if you aren't careful! A terrible lion ate our brave scouts many years ago. Thankfully, the scout has been avenged, as our mighty warriors struck down the lion. Much fiercer barbarian warriors have begun to appear, but I trust they will be no threat to our more advanced soldiers.

Fun tales aside, I do have an idea for your team to consider. I was talking with my team, and we were thinking we might be able to get trade routes with your nation via the river between us. Do you have an interest in trying to get Open Borders to unlock this possibility?

Let me know if there's anything I can help you with!

Thank you,

German team finally responded:

German Team Wrote:Okay, It's a deal! The NAP shall be effective.
Needless to say that we agree to open borders with you as well ,
without scouting, as you proposed.
We think that the known tech bonus can be an important factor,
because, with 3,33% per team, it can add up to a total of 26,67%. On
request we will gladly inform you of our technological progress.

Thanks for sharing the map speculation. That looks a lot like we were thinking, too. UCiv is West of WPC and Northwest of us. We're the first team that they met.

How are things going with WPC and the Germans? We seem to be getting along with most of our neighbors so far, though the Spaniards are rather enigmatic. If only we could open up diplomacy with the Barbs, but they're just not as cooperative! Have you guys seen anything stronger than Barb Warriors yet?

How have your scouting efforts have been going? Our eastern cities have been coming along nicely, and so we wanted to resume border talks with you as we start to look to the west. Have you been able to explore around the Oasis location we mentioned earlier?

WPC gave me a quick confirmation:

WePlayCiv Wrote:Hello,

a quick reply.

We are in a process of discussing and polling (there is always polls) about the Open Borders proposal.
I set a deadline to this weekend, so I'll contact you again when we have reached the decision.

RB Wrote:Great! Hopefully we can defog a trade route with you quickly so that we can benefit from Open Borders. We will stay out of your borders to keep the no-scouting deal. Do you see a good way to connect a route to you? Is there maybe a river to your south that we have not seen?

For the early turns, our team feels it is best to research the techs we need as soon as possible instead of waiting for them to be cheaper to research. We might be interested later in the game when it has a greater effect, but for now let's wait. I hope that's OK! We'd be happy to consider it later in the game when it's more than 2-3 beakers smile.

Thanks!

RB Wrote:CFC/Caledorn,

Quick clarification - you said UCiv is west of WPC and Northwest of you. Are you mixing up east and west? We are northwest of you and the German team is west of WPC, so that part was a tiny bit confusing. smile

Things are going well with WPC and the German team. The German team is a bit slow to respond, but they seem very cordial. I tried sending a message to the barbarians, but they just told me my head would look better on a pole. None too thrilled about that, so we declared war on them.

Scouting efforts have been OK, but now that barbarians are making their presence known, we're trying to exercise caution by keeping more units home. We've easily been able to kill them so far, but I suspect they'll start getting stronger soon. We did find the Oasis, but we didn't really go past it so that we could get back in time for barbarians. Is there any specific location you're looking at settling?

Thanks,

Got this PM from YossarianLives - I'm not sure why it was a PM and not an email, but here it is:

Yossarian/CFC Wrote:Hi Scooter. We have received RB's message, and indeed we did confuse our directions. UCiv is in fact east of WPC and northeast of us. They would be roughly in the "6" location on the speculative map you sent us.

I went ahead and just sent them this quick email about the OB. I'm not going to mention the no-scout clause just yet.

RB Wrote:Another idea. Are you guys interested in signing Open Borders so that we can eventually get trade routes between us? I think that would be super helpful if we could connect that way, as we would both benefit from that arrangement quite a bit. Any thoughts?

WPC responded an hour ago too:

WePlayCiv Wrote:Greetings to the noble people of Realms Beyond!

Our elders discussed your proposal and the votes are counted.

Our verdict is favorable for signing the open borders agreement, with a single amendment.
We would like to rule out entry of any units inside the borders, thus making the agreement mainly a financial one.
Naturally our units would not venture inside your borders either.
If you agree with this rule, we are ready to sign the open borders contract.

Best regards,

Are we OK with this from WPC? I know there was some interested in scouting them out to see if they're a worthwhile conquest target later in the game. That could always be done with spies of course.

Sent a quick confirmation back to WPC agreeing to their no-scout clause:

RB Wrote:WePlayCiv,

Great! I talked with my team, and they agree to a no-scouting clause. Hopefully we can defog enough to work out a trade route to your cities pretty soon.

Let me know if you need anything else!

Quote:Hi Scooter / RB,

That sounds like a good idea to us. Are you thinking full Open Borders, or just for the trade routes with "no scouting" allowed?

Glad to hear you're getting along with your neighbors. Still no sign of Impis in our part of the world, so we should be ok as long as we can keep the Barbs at bay. Our mutual military struggle brings us closer together.

Regarding our border agreement ideas, we will be settling a city that is around this area very soon, which is why we wanted to open up discussions again. This city will have the Oasis in the BFC. We respect this halfway-point landmark, however, so this is as far West as we will settle.

We were thinking full open borders would be nice. Is that OK with you?

One clarifying question on the Oasis site - can you tell me where in the BFC that Oasis is? By that I mean, what tile in relation to the Oasis are you planning on settling?

Thanks,
