Was looking at the Jkaen/Gustaran game again. Could Jkaen have actually drawn there? The analysis has a slight error with the board(It was 40. Kxf5, not 40. Ke5), but Ke5 would actually save the position I think:
40. Ke5 41. Rxb6 Rc8 42. Rc6 Rd8 and White can't protect all of it's pawns. 41. Rc8 42. Kc4 seems like it might prevent this though, but play might resume 42. h5 43. h3 Rd8 or something? I can't see any way for White to Queen it's pawns(43. Rc8 Rd8 and White must either lose the D pawn or enter what I think is a stalemate position with 44. Rd8 Rxd6 45. cxd6 Kxd6). 44. Rc7 leads to 44. Rc7 Rxd6 and the game likely heads to an endgame with Rook and two Pawns vs. Rook and two pawns? But 40. Kxf5 loses because the King is out of position to defend the Rook. Did I miss a winning combination for White if 40. Ke5? (Also bleh, moving the wrong Knight in the Gustaran game 2 is going to cost me the game. Lesson learned: Make your move, then get food, not the other way around!)
I think when we're done we should each pick a game to do some kind of post-game analysis / write-up about in here. Or maybe review a game per person in thread as a group?
I like the second option. Maybe even a few of the games. We've gotten some very interesting ones this tournament I think.

Kc5) but 43.d6 Kxf5 44.d7 Rd8 45.Rd6 Ke5 46.Rd5+ and the c pawn will go through pindicator Wrote:I think when we're done we should each pick a game to do some kind of post-game analysis / write-up about in here. Good idea. regoarrarr Wrote:I have been following this along - I almost signed up a few times but didn't feel that I was good enough to play, but if we have another one I think I'd like to play Sure, just join us next time!
@ Gustaran: Alright, that makes sense for the endgame. Thanks.
@ Rego: I have a Chess.com record of 7 wins to 24 losses and am 0-4-0 this tournament, don't worry about skill. XD We have a nice range of skill, I think. On the plus side, I think I'm about to go 1-4-0. My game against Jkaen looks quite favorable for me... (December 2nd, 2012, 02:18)Kuro Wrote: @ Gustaran: The annotations are an enjoyable read. Fairly informative too, even if you are a "casual amateur". Any chance we can see one of the Sian game or, when it's done, maybe even our game? I think the position in our game is veeeeeery interesting... There you go, our first game with annotations: http://rapidshare.com/files/2340279220/R...staran.pdf
Thank you, I'll take a look now. Speaking of firsts, I just won my first game of the tournament, but a good game by Jkaen. Rd6 cost him big time. (There was also a draw offer after turn 33 by me).
EDIT: Pretty good analysis. That last bit probably describes me pretty well in terms of weaknesses! (December 3rd, 2012, 08:17)Kuro Wrote: Thank you, I'll take a look now. It was actually correct not to take the draw, because I just checked the PGN and black had a mate in 5 after your move 33.Qxe6. ![]() Also what was your plan after 41...Kc6 ? |
