No, but we do it the other way around for Christmas: shop first and eat later. Though the days between Christmas and the New Years are starting to fill up with all sorts of shopping too, but usually people has spent most of it anyway.

I dunno if you've heard of Black Friday here - thanksgiving is on a thursday and friday the US goes insane (actually, it's only about 20%... but that's 60 MILLION people at the stores, which is nuts)
