That was certainly unexpected!

I didn't know that the AI didn't get a hammer bonus for wonders (other than the era bonus).

And that was the best Liberalism race I've seen in a while. I did think it was funny that using the espionage slider to see where you were with the Liberalism race almost cost you the race! Isn't there some rule of track and field about not looking at the competition until after you've broken the tape? smile

You have to admire an AI that will whip away so many population for a wonder.... Reminds me of the somewhat :weed: play I made: I saved 2 turns on the Great Lighthouse, but one of those could have been saved by not revolting to Slavery until the wonder was completed!

The AI's long roads to resources were pretty funny. I remember thinking I should mess with them a bit and send an old chariot or two to cut the resources in neutral territory. Stayed too busy with real aggression to implement passive aggression.

Comments that are spoilerish before reading your report...

I'm very surprised that you were able to pull off an espionage economy and still win diplomacy. It sounds like this was because you wisely stole all your techs from Pericles and were able to ensure that he was your opponent for the head of the UN. And I agree that you would have won Space anyway, especially since your well-developed empire had sufficient espionage to destroy spaceship parts as needed if any AI got too advanced. And you nabbed the most important builder-corporations with Sushi and Mining. Yeah, you had this one in the bag with no trouble.

Also, since you knew you were in it for the long haul and since the rich lands east of Brennus were "safe" for later settling, I'm surprised you didn't make more of an effort to get Stone and Marble. I'm sure you could have taken the Stone northeast of Amsterdam before Charlemagne grabbed it. And (I could be wrong here...) I think I eventually saw some Marble down south of Pericles that could have been grabbed. No matter if you used them for wonders, failgold, or just traded for gpt, it seems like those resources would have been well worth stretching for.

Great game and report as always. Very interesting how different the three games reported so far were.

New event opening soon, I hope?!

I tried and got beat by about two turns. I assumed I had time to settle the better land first and misjudged just a bit. But it wasn't a great loss, I wasn't competing for any stone wonders. I didn't even see Pericles' marble until much later, just before the Liberalism race. Obviously it would have swung Taj my way if I'd seen and grabbed it first. I did build and send a spy towards the marble to sabotage it, but didn't get there in time before he whipped the wonder.

Yes, this upcoming Sunday or Monday. It'll be lighter holiday fare.
