well I was going to check on that, but someones logged in. I'll be able to do it in a couple of hours again. I can play the turns until your firewall is fixed, Lewwyn. I'll follow the plan for the quick settler - it does mean that Achilleus needs to plant himself at our third city site, can't afford to have him off exploring (a chariot will be better served for that anyway). Iliad's garrison can escort the new settler until it gets to Achilleus anyway.

ok, I played the turn.
First, there was one square that we hadn't defogged 2w of the proposed site for the Odyssey. Good news!
that sheep is a surprise, it fits in the bfc of where we were going to plant the city anyway.
Given that, I'm changing the barracks build in the Iliad (renamed from Iliad to the Iliad) to a warrior. my reasoning?
the Oddyssey will need a culture building anyway to pick up the sheep. maybe even before the granary, since we only have 2 forests to chop there before borders expand (we can then use the second ring forest to chop a granary). the border pop in Odyssey will pick up the land between Odyssey and the Iliad. the only other territory a border pop in the Iliad will pick up is water, which we won't need until long after we have a religion or a library there.
we're only putting 1 hammer a turn into it anyway so it will take forever for that barracks to build, a warrior can actually complete. I will switch back if there is disagreement, but this seems smarter to me.
the warrior is going 1E next turn, probably move to the hill the turn after for greater vision and squat there until the settler arrives. better to scout with a horse chariot.
re: the scout.
Not sure why waterbat moved 1W, but it worked out - revealing the copper that will take us forever to claim (but at least we know where it is). I was going to go ahead and move him NE, N - I am pretty sure the barb animals are disappearing now and with woodsman 2 we should be safe anyway. but he needs to heal, so might as well heal him first before moving.
once he heals he can stay on forest the next 3 turns - first NE, N - then SE, NE, then SE, E. probably plenty of forest over there for him to stay safe even from barb warriors with the woodsman two bonus and fully healed.
our workers:
Ishtar and Helen are chopping a forest each. I went ahead and made sure both squares belonged to the capital in case we forget when it matters. Cassandra finished her road on the furs this turn. next turn AH will still be two turns out, so Ill have her move SE and start a cottage while we wait on AH. probably just have her finish it, since with the whip we won't need the furs right away - then complete the furs once the cottage is finished. note that the capital will expand its borders again 1 turn before AH is completed - if we wish we can go ahead and camp the extra furs outside of its BFC as well, so we will have trade bait once we can trade with serdoa (sailing???). we won't be able to claim the tundra furs until we get a third border pop.
the warrior in gilgamesh completes next turn and we grow to size 4. we will put 1 turn into a warrior while Gilgamesh claims all 3 food resources and a cottage, then switch to a settler once the chops come in, and whip the next turn.
lewwyn, the turn we build the settler, pre-whip, should the 4th citizen work a cottage or mine? not sure if working the mine will cause us to not be able to 2 whip, or if working the cottage will keep us from whipping that turn at all?
The new warrior (agamemnon) will stay as military police in the capital. Hektor is hanging out on the borders atm, he will escort the settler until he is safe and protected by Achilleus, then he will go to serve as military police in the Iliad.
I think after the 2 forests are chopped both workers should move 1E of the capital and build a road. then the next turn they can move before the settler and road the rice. this will get the settler to his destination much quicker. from there they can split up - one back on cottage duty while the other roads towards the Oddysey to get trade routes in that city and allows us to move around military units easier. or they both can work on the road so they can be there to chop and get the third city up and running, while we pump out a 4th worker in gilgamesh or Iliad?
top 5 cities:
demos:
we're ahead of Serdoa but behind Azza in GNP. We trail both in food, azza is ahead of Serdoa. all 3 of us are equal in power.
Azza's MFG continues to baffle and scare me . I guess he must be working copper, and maybe marble/stone too to get that many hammers? yet he is not sacrificing GNP or food to do so. He seems to be doing quite well :/.
azza dropped to 11% of total pop even though we stayed the same. maybe he whipped?
Serdoa has 7 culture in his second city, I guess thats from founding the religion .
Ill play the next turn when it rolls, still waiting on scooter, nakor, and slowcheetah.

btw, Achilleus has a promotion available should we need it in the future. if a barb popups up while we wait for the settler we can promote woodsman and let the barb suicide - otherwise probably keep it unused for awhile.
also note that archery only takes us 3 turns to complete atm.

Cool. I should be okay now, my VPN is working again, but I don't mind if you play the turn. Thank you waterbat for grabbing the last turn!
Cassandra will move SE next turn and cottage for 2 turns while we wait for AH I think.
Actually the two workers do not need to road E of the cap and the rice. That will not speed the settler. The settler can move SE-SE and cover the same ground. We could however speed the settler by roading SE of the capital and then S. I don't think we can do that though before the settler moves. Therefore I think we need to think about the plan a bit. I would rather that one of those chopping workers helped cottage around some more and we need to see if we have horses next to the capital in which case we should pasture them asap. But at least one of the workers needs to move south to farm the corn. Do we have immiediate TRs? We may need to road north of Odyssey and NW of that. Those two road sections will connect Odyssey to the river. The worker can build 1T road segments as it moves South. I'll work on the micro for that. Again though we have to see if we have horses.
The sheep is wonderful we're going to have to settle a city west of the sheep that also grabs the sheep in the second ring. I was worried about the Southwest dotmap, but that sheep should help a little bit.
That said we need to chop the granary in Odyssey first before a barracks. Odyssey already has 2 quality tiles in the corn and the oasis and doesn't need the sheep that quickly. In fact there are more forests west of the sheep which could be used in the city west of the sheep to build the barracks and pop the borders over the sheep for both. Though we probably still want culture in Odyssey for defense sooner or later. Also we don't urgently need Iliad's borders to pop.
As for the tile micro, in the cap what we work on the turn pre-whip is variable. I think crab (4) wheat (6) mine (4) cottage (2) and cap (3) gives us 19-8= 11H+40= 51. That's all we need. Illiad can work the rice and other cottage and grow to 3. Then when we whip Gilgamesh, Illiad can grab the other cottage and work 2 cottages + rice while G grows off crab and wheat.

i was thinking the settler could move on the road for 1/3 a movement point instead of 1/2. hah. i guess thats after engineering.
well, if ishtar (currently chopping the plains forest) moves SW she can road that tile in time for the settler. she will work it one turn the turn we whip, and then we just have to make sure she completes the road before the settler starts moving. that one road will be all we need - it will hit hector with 1/2 movement left, can move SE or S, with hector escorting just in case. That will allow us to found 3 turns after settler is completed instead of 4.
we will need culture asap in either the odyssey or iliad to claim the 2nd ring territory between them - 3 grassland tiles, 1 of them riverside. better to make it in odyssey, as that will also pick up the sheep, 4 lighthouseable lake tiles, and 2 more grassland tiles to the east. no?
as for city #4, I assume it would be in the area of the wine, to position for claiming the gold and the other seafood resource on the penisula that the Iliad just missed as well. Although a city to the west would be safer militarily and logistically.
we'll need 2 roads at least to connect trade routes to the oddyssey - from the river to the city. might as well do that on the way - we'll need a worker or two down there to chop and farm and pasture the sheep anyway.
I guess with a hill to be mined and the whip it won't be too hard to get a barracks if we go granary first. we need both and a border pop asap, my thinking was if we went barracks first we could get the border pop while we were completing the granary.

Sorry, still no. The river crossing takes a full point of movement. a road SE of Gilgamesh is mostly useless right now.

First the tiles between Iliad and Odyssey are some grasslands. These are not a huge priority to claim. It's not like someones going to settle a city between them and we're not going to be working them for a while anyway. We can do it in time.
A Granary in Odyssey is going to be the strongest play given this. The city has an Oasis and corn in its first ring. It'll work these two tiles first anyway. Also with that surplus we're going to want to whip Odyssey as well. We could chop the granary and whip the barracks, but farming the corn is first priority.
Ishtar should move 2S after finishing chopping (T51). Then move south and put one turn into a road (T52). Then move SE and road (T53-54). Odyssey will be settled T55, on that turn Ishtar move SE onto the corn and begins farming. Odyssey starts a Granary and working the Oasis tile. T59 corn finishes and Odyssey swaps to it. 12 food in the box at this point, 10 to go. EOT60 Odyssey grows to Size 2. 12 Hammers into the granary at this point. T60 Ishtar moves to forest. T61 starts chopping and is finished T63. Granary in Odyssey finishes T63 with chop after 2nd citizen works grassforest on T61 before swapping to the Oasis.
So that is the fastest I can get both the corn farmed and the Granary up with one worker. It's possible that another worker will come help (and finish the road on the way), but I can't tell that until we see where horse is.
As for city 4. I don't support settling East unless we have chariots. So again it hinges on that.
Also I had an idea. Do you want to rush the GLH? If we settle Odyssey 1N we can save a forest + whip a barracks and lighthouse and then chop 5 forests into the GLH at 30H a pop. Then we just need 50 IND hammers... I think we could do it, but if we missed we would have placed our city in a place that loses 4 lighthouse infused lakes. Not sure I'm willing to do that. Esp since GLH is nerfed...

Bigger you have to be more entertaining. Or I suppose we could simply rush Azza.

I like the Odyssey where it is just fine. Those 4 missing lake tiles would be very bad long term - that site may very well end up being our maoi site - the better stone sight just seems too difficult atm. Also, if the TGL falls in our lap, i'll take it, but its a bit of a trap. its nerfed, but I expect not everybody will treat it as such - so we may get people refusing open borders or expecting GPT in exchange for them. plus, it won't even benefit our capital :/.
ok, your worker plan needs sound. but we will want to road the area between our two current cities eventually, just for troops movement.

I noticed this awhile ago, yes. probably mostly do to Scooter posting funny meme's that have nothing to do with Civ and Pindicator acting confused by unnecessarily complicated sim plans posted by noble helium.
But why are you blaming me? I have more posts in this thread than every entire thread except for scooter and commodore. Our ded-lurker has more posts in this thread than you do! find something to get pissed off at and we'll pass them in no time!
also clearly we need more waterbat in this thread.
