Modest suggestion: Restrict yourself to Restricted!
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

I have nothing.

That felt sudden. Like time didn't exist before now, except that it's an entirely unremarkable moment. Everything is dark. I remember a game I used to play, a game of words sounding like other words. Words, those are what I'm using to think this very moment. Sounds... I don't know. Game, I know. It defies explanation though. It just is. The game. You strive for Victory, and you succeed, and that's the end. Maybe this is the beginning.

Memories...

The game of words.

I remember thinking that it's funny how some words are like other words for entirely the wrong reasons. Like this:

I'm not sure what that means. I definitely need help. I have nothing.

Maybe that's OK. Maybe it's because it's the beginning. I think I will get Three Wishes soon. They usually give me Three Wishes. They always give me a Gift.

My Gift has arrived. But my imagination fails me. I sleep.

Here's the start:

You've got six points:

5: FIN, India
4: EXP, Inca
3: ORG, CRE, SPI,
2: IND, PHI, Sumer, Egypt, Ottomen, France, China
1: Holy Rome, all other Agriculture civs, all other Mining civs
0: IMP, CHA, AGG, PRO, All other civs

Warrior starts unless you have Hunting, as is normal; you ought to have no issues with warriors wandering.

I wake from my slumber and examine the gift. It has changed. I would think I merely dreamt it before, but I have the record. It is definitely different. Maintenance is now lower, and the complex restrictions on wishing have been removed. Oh, and fishermen have been raised to some sort of international holy status and are not to be bothered in war times.

I proceed immediately to wishing. Though I don't know why, I am a practiced wisher and know which wishes provide the best results, i.e. the greatest chance of Victory. I first wish for my workers to be swift and productive, but someone has already wished for that. I next wish for my meals to be imbued with a special assimilating agent, but that too is already claimed. Thirdly, I wish for bountiful food and knowledge, but am foiled once more.

No problem. I just keep trying, like always.

I decide to wish for bountiful assimilation, as I gather from the map dimensions that I will have neighbors 12 tiles away in either direction, but I am unsure whether to also wish for bountiful knowledge, or bountiful food. The low maintenance costs of this land seem to indicate that bountiful food would be useful, but I note that the starting position doesn't favor this plan. My capital city will not be able to supply my whole empire's knowledge, for it is weak in knowledge production. Therefore, having additional knowledge throughout my empire seems appealing. Additionally, bountiful food normally grows you your first worker more quickly, but in this capital it does not.

Thus, I wished for bountiful assimilation and knowledge, and my wish was granted.
